Toms in place..

It took a lot of Jiggery-Pokery and trips between G’houses but I decided it was time to pop my toms into their circles. First it was move more trays down to the bottom house..

I still have lots more coming on in the top one…

Beans

Black Poppies.
More Cucumbers, Lobelia, Zinnia, Helichrysum…
However I was able to remove the lower and middle staging to prepare the tomato beds, I’m not using growbags this year, I dig out the old earth to approx 1ft down and spread it on the garden and replace with new then I place my tom circles in place filling them with new compost, its not that much different as using a bag, in fact I think my toms have more compost individually than they would sharing a bag, plus they don`t dry out as quickly…

Four each of Gardeners Delight, Alicante and Moneymaker..Still lots spare so I might pop a couple in the bottom house and see how they fair or even pop a couple outside for a change…
A look around the garden before the rain comes again..

Both apple trees have lots of blossom again..

However they did have last year but it was so dry they lost loads in the June wilt and then ripened before filling out so it was a bad year really for me, the poor birds lost out as there were hardly any left to store overwinter…

Just look at the size of those Delphiniums and they haven`t formed the flower stems yet ..
As you can see Brynner and Morgan still not allowed to race around in the main garden..

Great blog Lincs/ You have been very busy and your runner beans look really good and healthy. My runners are looking very poor this year. Think I shall have to get a new packet of seed and try again. Your delphiniums, like mine, have made a lot of growth. Like you I think I shall have to start moving things out, its getting a bit crowded in my greenhouse !!!

Looking superb!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Crickey Lincs you could start your own Garden centre, and your plants are all looking so strong and healthy. At first glance I thought the two Delphiniums were two small fatsia japonica.lol.

your delphiniums are way ahead of mine.

Thanks all, I know I`ve gone way overboard as regards flowers, most of them are from seed I collected from my own garden, last years seeds didn`t really do well for me so this time I planted all my saved seeds and the opposite has happened, lol, dare say I`ll find somewhere for them even if its in another garden.
I have two of those Junipers Paul, the other one is near the bottom pond, they go yellow in a good summer..
San the dogs are only shut out of the garden because the grass is so wet and like a sponge, they scrape the grass up when they run, its not as bad as it looks as the run is right from the back door and down to the Amalenchiar, nearly the length of our garden....

I love them Lincs - have a line of them over pond edge

2 May, 2012

Mine are about 30yrs old now Paul, the one near the top pond has been reduced by about half, it was looking very sickly about 2yrs ago, I cut it right back to the main stem and pleased to say it does have new growth appearing, they say it won`t do that in my book but I thought it was worth a go, pleased now that I did....

That's great Lincslass :))))))

Poor dogs, looking all couped up in there ;o)
I didn't know you had a cactus
And that Ornithogalum - well mine hasn't come back this year :o(
And I haven't sewn anything yet, except a few peas in pots. I hope the weather'll be warm this week end. I want to get on.
Lovely views of your garden ... :o)

They do get disappointed Hywel but I do play with them in the run, hoping it dries up soon and they`ll join me in the garden.
Thankyou for naming my bulbs, I lost my label and couldn`t for the life of me remember the name...

Wow lincs your place is huge! I feel claustrophobic on my patio now haha! Love your greenhouse! Do you have lots of dogs? They must love running around-or are they not allowed lol? Think when we get a rabbit it can have a patch of its own and thats it-no chewing my leaves up! :D

Two dogs Leigh, Brynner is a Flatcoat Retriever and Morgan Choc/Lab, he does actually belong to our daughter, four cats, as well, one we seem to be sharing with a neighbour up the road, gets fed at both houses.
The dogs are allowed into the garden with me but its too wet at the moment so I keep them in the run otherwise I`d not have a lawn, they would create a paddock with their playing, Morgan doesn`t mind but poor Brynner is very disappointed, he likes to be with me at all times...

all looking really good well done:))))

3 May, 2012

Jiggery-pokery ... lol. My mother used to say that ... haven't heard it for years :o)

3 May, 2012

LOL, Hywel it was a saying I picked up from my mum and her family, it covers everything, don`t you think...

3 May, 2012

Wow top marks for all your sowing and plants, you are going to have a fantastic show and harvest, I just love the flower bed outside your greenhouse and would look a closer look at what you have planted there ;0))

3 May, 2012

My mam used to say it when something had been done in a sly way .... like for example if someone had got money by unlawful means, she'd say 'I'm sure some jiggery-pokery went on there' ... lol

4 May, 2012

Thats it Hywel, anything with the council and government as well, mum used to say you can guarantee theres always jiggery-pokery going on behind closed doors, lol...

Greta blog Lincs, you'll have to invite us all round for tea when they're ready, I'm sure you won't be able to manage them all:-)

What a super garden. And I love your greenhouse(s). The apple trees look very promising! What a lot of work you did - once started, that sort of thing has to be done in one go!

7 May, 2012

Your garden is looking lovely Lincslass. I'd love to have a greenhouse one day, your going to be feasting on tomatoes later in the year yum yum.. I have a huge bushy Delphinium like yours last year it must have reached 7ft, for the first time this year i took Monty don's advice and took some cuttings and it's worked so hopefully when i plant that next year it will be the same size. I'll look forward to see your future pictures of your toms.
