Oh no! I do know its the longest day, but I was trying not to think about, its so depressing - we've never even had a proper spring, and its too late now. And yes, I've had lights on for the last hour... but it was getting light by 3.45 this morning - I know, cos I was still up, unfortunately...

Congratulations on your anniversary Scotkat, how many years? It's a real shame that it has rained today and broken your record.

It's very depressing Bamboo. I usually always sit out in the garden at this time every year, but unless I want to be blown away I can't this year. Sorry you were up at 3.45am - I guess you had your longest day! :-)

I think 45yrs ago it was snowing on this date, not exactly sure what year, the reason I remember is because my dads birthday would have been tomorrow, they were always on holiday for that at Ingoldmells, there are photo`s of my brother digging on the beach, he was 5/6yrs old at the time and we celebrated his 50TH two weeks ago...

Andrew the lady on the till at the supermarket reminded me its time to start collecting my stamps for xmas, lol....

I'm already starting on my Christmas cakes and puddings - great pans of macerating fruit, smelling amazing, and we have big 5 litre glass jars full of fruit and alcohol ranged along the floor, making liqueurs to drink in the cold dark days of winter. It's too hot to make jams at the moment, so the freezers are packed with boxes of fruit pulp, waiting for cooler weather. The ice cream machine is working overtime, too. Today it'll be pear and ginger sorbet. All this fruit, and in two days' time it'll be St John's day and green walnut harvesting time for nocino. Before you know it, all the tomatoes will start producing, and we'll be into sun-drying and passata mode. Who said Summer was a time to stretch out in the sunshine? Too darned much to do! It's just as well the days are long. You have longer days in the UK than we do here, further south, but it's still light (just) at 9.30, and frankly, I'm worn out!

The past few Junes have all been the same. I don't think proper seasons exist any more.

Gattina what are you trying to do to us, its DIABOLICAL here, we did however get 4 days of not bad weather at the beginning of the week but it turned cold at nights and poured each and every one of them, sigh, which meant soggy gardening and a need for wellies in some places, lol...Today its housework and Goy in easy stages, oh and smoking too many ciggies, drinking too much coffee as stress levels high again....

22 Jun, 2012

Unfortunately, we've got unseasonably roasting weather for June, with high, high levels of humidity (around 87% right now). Not even any sunshine. PLEASE, PLEASE would you like to come and claim some of it, Lincslass? Rain is forecast for tomorrow, but we aren't holding our communal breath. The Forestry guys are bringing in the "no bonfire" restrictions a whole month and a half before usual. The lawn is already like straw, and the tubs full of bedding plants, despite 2 waterings a day are looking quite sad.
Luckily, I don't do ciggies any more, and never have done coffee, but housework is COMPLETELY off the agenda. Not a breath of air and too hot for stress. (down to 40° today, but still too darned hot). Pooped!

Meanwhile, Bracknell still has a hosepipe ban (because our water comes from underground aquifers that are still low)

YOU ARE KIDDING ME!

22 Jun, 2012

You and me both then, Andrew - drought order still in place here.

22 Jun, 2012

We kid you not Gattina

I sympathise Andrew as Anglian Water have lifted their ban.....no need to use the hose though and wish I did!

22 Jun, 2012

Yes I`m with Anglian as well, they are asking us to be careful though and have put lots of advice in our local council mag which was delivered this week to every house in the district, bet that gets a few replies appearing in the next mag....

Dear Lord, I have just seen the morning news showing the floods in the north of England and Scotland. You Poor, Poor People. I do hope everyone is safe and well and still has their homes.
