I am a first year gardener. My mother was a wonderful gardener and her Mother was a Master gardener, so I grew up surrounded by beautiful plants, but sadly wasn't interested enough to pay any attention to the things they said.

I am not dedicated enough to spend the time they did, but I do want to have pretty flowers that are not too hard to grow.

I am willing to water and pull weeds and feed them, but what I really hope to end up with are some tough plants that won't need to be babied and that can survive our somewhat desolate weather conditions.

I like interesting flowers, but they don't have to be exotic. My favorite garden flower in our yard are the red spider lilies, and some people call them surprise, pop-up or hurricane lilies.

I love things like four 'o clocks and lantanas because they don't need much care. We have a lovely Lord Baltimore hibiscus which I hope will winter well here.

My true love hobbies are calligraphy and card making. I use lots of rubber stamps and all kinds of embellishments. I like to read and I sew, but not because I like it. I am very tall, and sometimes I just have to do it.
