An unwelcome Christmas present

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, I know I did though it`s nice to get back to normal once again. One of the presents I received was a case of what I think is shingles which will be confirmed or not tomorrow morning by the practice nurse. It started with what seemed like an insect bit on my shoulder and now it has got bigger and is causing me a lot of nerve pain all around the area. Jim had it years ago and thinks my rash is identical to the one he had. Daughter Kerry had it when she was just seventeen so I have experts in the family. I don`t usually do things like that but I decided to look it up on the internet and it has more or less confirmed my suspicions. Oh well, there`s nothing I can do about it so I just have to get on with it…sigh.

I went back to work yesterday though it was very cold there and we weren`t very busy despite the Bank Holiday. All the Christmas decs are half price so they are selling well. I even took the opportunity to buy next years Christmas cards while the nice ones were still there.

Today started badly for me. The first mishap was this morning when I pushed back the wardrobe door and a handbag from the top shelf fell on my head…it was a large handbag too!. Then when I was tidying the kitchen before work I dropped and broke a plate. Everything happens in threes and I briefly wondered what would happen next but then I forgot all about it and headed for work. The morning was uneventful and I got on with my jobs as usual. About 12.30, just 30mins before I was due to finish work I was helping our manager check in a delivery. Whilst we were doing that a colleague brought in some crates of bulbs and placed them behind us so we wouldn`t fall over them……well of course that was what was meant to happen but of course I hadn`t had my third accident. At 1pm I said my goodbyes turned to leave and did a half somersault into a crate of onion sets. Well of course I just burst out laughing once I realised that I wasn`t hurt, along with my manager and a customer who tried very hard not to smile but failed miserably! Of course I was asked whether I was hurt more than once but no bones were broken, I`m not certain about the onion sets though as they looked a bit flat after being sqashed by me! The thing is that despite having had a shower and a change of clothes I can still smell onions wherever I go…lol!

I have called this entry a gardening blog so I`d better say something horticultural. Mind you what can I say about a garden where nearly all the plants look like Egyptian mummies with all the Winter fleece wrapped around them. Now the snow has gone the heavy rain and cold winds are back. At this rate there`ll be nothing left living in the garden by Spring! I was looking at a Nandena today but was very good and walked away without buying it. I did notice yesterday how lovely it looked with the frost on it.

Next Monday I`ll be calling Labrador Lifeline Trust to ask for a new dog. It`s definitely time for a new furry friend to join the household, it`s far to quiet and I badly miss the tip-tap of paws on the laminate flooring, it was a comforting sound. A New Year and a new dog…..

Love Sandra x
