Flowers for me!

Yesterday was our 38th wedding anniversary…38 years, unbelievable…I didn`t realise I was that old…lol! Anyway, I had a lovely surprise when Jim arrived home with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, he`d asked the florist to make them bold and bright as he knows I love lots of colour.

I had to split the bouquet into two vases so I put one in our bedroom and one in the living room. They smell lovely thanks to the lillies and the gerberas look wonderful thanks to my thoughtful hubby. :o)

I`ve never grown Penstemon before but when I was browsing round yet another garden centre I saw this, the aptly named `Ice Cream Meltin` Candy`…what a brilliant name!

It was only £3 and it very healthy looking, hopefully it will come through the winter and give me a nice lot of flowers next Summer.

The garden centre was really busy today, the nice weather is bringing the customers in and we also have some really good offers on at the moment. We are also doing a lot of moving round at the moment but seeing as I`m on the till I`m not as involved in it as everyone else. It is hectic though and tomorrow, being Friday is always busy because of deliveries of stock. I think of it as `bad back day` because that what I usually end up most weeks…lol! Christmas stock has started arriving but it won`t be put out until October…thankfully.

I also planted Sedum `Autumn Joy`. I`ve been thinking about getting one for a while and I`ve seen photos on here. When a plant delivered arived with them on the trolley my mind was made up for me. :o)

I managed to get some gardening done and one of the main tasks was clearing away tired looking bedding plants, pulling a few weeds and dead-heading. I`m keeping on top of everything seeing as the holiday is only a few weeks away now. I`ve disposed of the tomato plants which were very poor this year. I still have one, Black Cherry but I doubt the majority of them will ripen now, the mornings are too cold and theres no room for them in the greenhouse. Oh well, at least the few tomatoes I did harvest were very tasty. :o)

What a thoughtful husband you have, such a pretty bouquet too. I've got Penstemons, both came through last Winter and as we seem to have similar weather conditions, yours should be fine. The Butterflies will soon find the Sedum ! Take care of your back, nothing worse than backache. : o ))))

Congratulations. I'm not surprised you have stuck with this lovely husband for 38 years when he is thoughtful enough to ensure you get the kind of flowers you love. May you have many more happy years together. Every garden needs at least one sedum and that is a very nice one. Our garden is going backwards so fast I am having difficulty keeping up.Why is it that as the flowers die back the weeds start growing like mad. I filled two wheelie bins today with weeds, spent pea plants and perennials. I bought some parrot feathered tulips yesterday from Lidl. I need to get them in and then source some winter flowering pansies for my wall boxes. It is a busy time. Take care of your back and a holiday sounds like a great idea at this time of year.

Oh dear, I have a confession to make. I was sitting watching TV when it hit me, I haven`t been married for 38 yrs, its only 37! How did I get it wrong? Jim thought it was hilarious though...many thanks for all your congratulations to me and my long suffering hubby...lol! :o)

I did have to laugh at your confession. I always have to check with my husband when anyone asks. We moved here in 1973 and the following year my husband decided to send me flowers instead of bringing home a bunch himself. Can you image the dismay when I was sent a wired bouquet of what were obviously flowers for a funeral. My daughter went along to the local Garden centre which was the only florist in our country area and asked if that was what had been ordered. Red faces all round they had had a funeral that day and my flowers went to the cemetary and I got the poor corpses flowers. We laugh about it now but I was very upset at the time.

Oh Scotsgran what a faux pas for a florist to make, I bet you were upset but what a great dinner party story !!
