Garden revamp
Garden revamp

I have been given the assignment of assisting my mother in redoing the front garden when the house updates are completed.
My Brother has done a very nice job of adding a screened in porch and vinyl siding.

The almost blank canvas…the flower bed you see in the for front with landscaping ties will have to remain pretty much as is…maybe not contents but the Iris’ will have to be used somewhere…sentimental values…gifts from people in my mom’s past.
the yard has shade I would estimate 80% of the time. I know azalias prefer more acidic soil but do they need a lot of sun to bloom?
I know that Azalia and Dicentra are two plants that she would like incorperated into the garden.
I also need suggestions on setting the gardens up so there is minimal weeding. I cant make it down often enough and mom and dad both are limited in their capabilities (Dad’s eyesight is bad enough he pulled mom’s tree lilies thinking they were weeds…we believe they’ve all survived the trauma but won’t know until spring) I do plan on mulch but any additional suggestions will be greatly appreciate.
Design can’t be too complicated…Dad needs to be able to mow the grass with his riding lawn mower…One thing we can’t take away from him.
so you see I have lots of challenges and things to consider with this design and of course…I’m the laborer.
lots of planning needs to be done as you can see.
Thanks for any suggestions.

If your mom wants to keep the Irises maybe you could move them to a sunnier place. I believe they like a lot of sun.

I will make that suggestion to her...that means I'll have to work the back garden too...that is where the sun is. I've got a lot of work ahead of me. :/

Azaleas like dappled shade. They also like a sheltered position out of strong winds.

Hi Kris, I'm not in any position to offer any design ideas but perhaps I have an idea for mulching. Putting layers of newspaper under whatever you use for a mulch will increase the weed suppressant value and it will rot down over the year!
Good luck...................
