Deep Secret...

Is the name of the Cants of Colchester deep red rose I moved today. Again. It sure has suffered since coming here. Will it survive? We shall see. Today was a rose day. Went to Cants to buy a replacement for the Deep Secret which has been shunted along the bed. Can’t buy bare root now so Liliana is in a container and can’t be planted for a couple of weeks – something to do with the earth around the roots not being firm enough yet. Ah well. Apricot pink instead of dark red in the middle of the bed… hmmm. Not sure I’ve done the right thing. Should smell divine though and it’s a Renaissance rose, so will stand tall and proud as well. I’m going to grow roots myself soon I spend so much time sitting on the bench under the kitchen window…

thx Tina2. Can't wait to be enveloped in clouds of fragrance on a sunny day... so that'll be in September then! lol Watch out, summer's coming this weekend and early next week (remember last year?)

Oh don't! I couldn't bear a repeat of last year and the one before that!

I agree, Spritz, we deserve a good one this year.

Is the rose in the second pic the "Deep Secret" you moved? Does it get enough sun Kloba? 6 to 8 hours of direct sun a day minimum for most roses.
I hope your new rose does well. Don't forget the banana peel when you plant it. :o)

I've got Deep Secret. It's a lovely colour. I hope yours recovers.

The three blooms it begrudginly produced last year were perfect, so fingers crossed... I extended the rose bed out into the 'lawn' a bit, so it is well positioned for lots of sun.

What's this about banana peel? Sounds like a piece of gardening wisdom I should have heard before. Does the peel go in the earth under the roots?

I always put banana peel on the ground at the base of plants after I've eaten one. It's full of potassium which is good for flowering I believe.

I usually put one in the hole when I plant and then just put them on the ground around the plants with established roses. Coffee grounds are good around the roses too.

thanks guys. banana skins for the roses it is! And I drink a lot of coffee too, so I'll start using the grounds... one for the compost heap, one for the roses....
