In Memory of a Sunflower

Shortly after we arrived here (Mexico) I planted a little sunflower seed in 3"pot.I watched it grow with pride.

I was very excited to see open her petals . It looks like she is going to be a bigger than I thought. Suddenly my 3 inch pot did not hold enough water for her to thrive and I had to water her several times a day

She is going to be a beauty.

Finally in full bloom

Pretty lady with strong stem and big leaves in 3"pot.
I had to tie her to the column to keep her up.

Makes me smile

One of the most spectacular examples of the Fibonacci Sequence Series in nature is in the head of the sunflower like mine here.

My Sunflower and me

Sudenly the leaves started to disappear and the succulent in front of it was damaged…. and one day we came home from town and my sunflower was gone. Completely decimated. Very sad.
Who done it? …..
Here is the culprit.

I always wondered what do they eat here and I noticed it was eating flowers of many plants
On the end it would probably get the sunflower anyway…I just wanted to enjoy her little longer.

R.I.P.

Lori, I will plant more on the Island but they will probably not last there either. These squirrels are very cute but bold and naughty.

Could you cover with mesh or wire so the squirrls just can't feed from your beautiful sunflowers Klahanie.

At least you had the pleasure of seeing it flower before the pesky wee thing chomped it in its prime.

The close up photo was wonderful.

Hi Scotkat. I could mesh around but I am affraid that it will not deter these little monsters.

Scottish, I enjoyed it while it lasted. When I noticed those leaves disappearing I should have cut it in the vase. Lesson learned.

It was a beauty and obviously provided a very tasty few meals for the squirrel, at least you had it for a while, not sure how you'll stop him/her in the future, little beggar will be keeping an eye open for the next tasty treat..
Lovely photo's Klahanie...

Hello Bloomer, I like when people post pictures of themselves and family ...much more personal.
Yes, definitely "naughty Squirrel " . Just gave her banana peel. They seem to love it too and they of course eat everything what we put out for the birds.

???"get layered up in winter clothing"??? Do you mean from swim suit to shorts ??? :-))) I do have a sweather here ...just in case. We will be home in April and I will need plenty of warm clothes there. I hope your weather will improve soon.

We have the same problem on Vancouver Island as well Bathgate, So I am used to it. :=) At least it was eaten and not just destroyed.

I usually plant mine in the middle of my vegetable bed and surround them with onions. The onions help to drive them off.
