South we go

We live on Vancouver Island in Canada in the summer and go someplace warm in the winter. Usually part of the time we spend in Arizona and part of the time in Mexico.
We do not own any property outside of Canada and rent our houses ahead of time in 2 or 3 different places. The life in Arizona and Mexico are very different from our life on the Island. We enjoy our time in the sun but on end of the winter I am looking forward to come back home to our Island life. And yes, it includes chasing the deer from my roses and bears from apple trees.

The pictures below are taken in Arizona in March 2012.

This is a State park called Picacho (means “big peak” in spanish) and has very interesting history from Civil war.( Battle of Picacho Pass)
We always miss (by few weeks) the blooming Palo Verde and a flowering Saguaro.

Me (still smiling )just before our easier hike(I thougt)

Start of the path

Neat specimen. I think it would look great in Hywel’s new front Garden ;-).

Uphill path

And some more rocks to trip over.

lovely view

Almost there

View from the path

View east

Wait for me!

Good place to rest and then start on our way back. No we did not go all the way to the peak.

Interesting rock

Walking back.

The hike was quite intensive and lasted about 4 hrs. I was bushed. Then we went to Tucson for a quick lunch and to visit another natural wonder but this time we drove all the way.

==========

We are all packed and leaving for Arizona in couple of days.

4 hours? In heat? I'm exhausted & thirsty just thinking about it. I'm not a great hiker. When I walk.....I walk in shady places. Interesting terrain. My middle son lived in Arizona when he first got married, but hated the dryness & heat .....which is strange, because he spent many years of his childhood in the Middle East. Him & his wife moved to Michigan, & now complain about the freezing winters. Great blog.

Dwyllis, Arizona is not hot in the winter. It is in low 70's during the day and close to freezing at night. That is why we go to Mexico for part of the winter, to warm up :-)
It is the summer months that are very hot there. I could never live there in a summer and I do not blame your middle son wanting to escape that.

Bik, we are very lucky to be able to do that. Change of pace is good for the soul and body. Take care.
