DUCKS!

I went to water the seedlings in the greenhouse and walking back to the house I got such a shock. There were 2 ducks on my pond – a male and female. :-)

I hope you can see them, it was starting to get a little dark in the rain. I’ve been watching them ever since, but so have the cats :-(
I wonder if they will still be there in the morning?

The thing is my house is in the middle of a big housing estate - so you can imagine my surprise

Do you have the only pond in the area ?
They've taken to it like a duck to water ;o)

I don't know teratoonie, but its gone dark now, so they're in for the night. Hubby and I were just saying if they don't leave tomorrow we may need to help them on their way else next they'll be nesting and the cats would love that. Although a bad tempered duck would soon give them something to think about.
To scare them off or not that is a dilema - they are lovely. What would you do?

Goodness I`d be in a flat spin, delighted at first, then panic in case they got hurt, mind you I have four cats and two dogs so it wouldn`t happen here......

What lovely visitors to your pond....perhaps this is just a "stopover" for them. On the other hand it'll soon be duckling season......

What a surprise :) I wonder how long they'll stay ??

Mavisc52 - hopefully gone tomorrow.
Linclass - frogs, small garden birds, (the odd heron boo!) and newts but thats it, never ducks
Whistolass - Duckling season thats what worries me.
Hywel- yes a big surprise.

I've just looked out of the window and as the pond isn't to far from the house I can clearly see them fast asleep on the side of the pond ahhhhh!

It sounds as if they're making themselves at home but ducklings are a worry where local cats are concerned.
A couple of years ago we had ducks nesting in the top of our very tall conifer hedge with the result of 8 ducklings running round our garden! We had to round them up (Mum too) and relocate them. No water nearby to speak of except for next door's swimming pool, maybe that was the attraction!

my visitors have flown away.

Awww...just a stopover point then....probably gone to a safer situation :)

You're still privileged to have had your garden chosen as a resting place :o))

Just put the kettle on for a brew before bed, looked through the window and guess what? they're back.

I had breathed a sigh of relieve earlier when they weren't there, looking at my pond today they had stirred up all the silt, so I cleaned the filters and the water had started to go clear at teatime.

Hmmmm....they must think the accommodation suits..lol

I wonder if there is a rescue place nearby that would be able to fetch them back to a pond or another area more suited to wildfowl? I've seen the Tiddywinkles (sp?) on tv and watched them a few times chasing ducks and ducklings around to re-site them in a safer location.

Several days later and they visit for a couple of hours a day. The cats stalk them, the ducks quack and the cats head for the house. They are making a right mess of the pond. I must admit they are nice to have as visitors, we have called them Donald and Daisy.

Nice that they are paying you a visit and also that they are smart enough to avoid the cats...or perhaps the cats are the smartest....tease and run..lol

I'm sorry you have to cope with a mess from Donald and Daisy...that's not a nice part of the deal!

Thanks for updating, Kfunsters.
