Is the summer over?

Sorry, I know I am not polite, but we have had for two months dry sunny weather with very rare and poor showers. Some plants did not bloom, like rhododendrons, some bloom in different colours then usual. And everything in the garden is in haste.
For instance nuts. Almost ready for harvest. They should be ready in September, not in the middle of July…

…or blackberries… I used to pick them in August…

Our news said that we had the lowest harvest of wheat, rape, peaches, pears and plums in the last 40 years. Not me. I have enough plums. Will have to think what to do with this amount of plums…
brandy?

Somebody is checking the crop too…

Short glimpse on my Anabelle hortensia and her summer metamorphosis…

Verbenna…

And Hortensia again. It changed its colour in 3 years from blue through pinky into white :)

Hello Honey Bunny, how are you doing? Now, when we have “cold wave” and it is just 21 degrees of Celsius with some short rains, he is lazy and likes to sleep in his cage all the day. I would like to have a rest, too :)
Those hot days were really exhausting….

awww so sweet :)) afraid my leaves are reddening now - and some better weather ahead - but rain and winds closey following here :( also a very cold winter in UK is highly likely - so our summer is all about done well what we had - and a harsh winter after :(

Well, you know, I have had several friends dealing with ecology, from diffferent countries. I read or I heard from them, do not remember now the way of that information, some years ago, that this decade will be famine all over the world, as summers will be hot and dry and winters very cold and dry.
So, come on, gardeners, its our turn!

Thank you, Linclass. Summer was here on holiday for previous two months, so there wasn´t room for spring :)) Hope we will not jump so abruptly to the winter...

I have a theory - the 2012 Olympics and Euro 2012 jinxed UK's summer!

18 Jul, 2012

Possible. But where was spring?

18 Jul, 2012

We had a very warm and very dry March here, Katarina, so a sort of summery spring. Sadly, it was followed by nearly 2 months of cold wet and windy weather, with a brief interlude of a heatwave towards the end of May, then back to cool and wet. So you've had our sun, and we've had your rain... and your lack of rain explains the 'quickening' of plants to get their seeds produced before early leaf fall.
Paul'sgarden, PLEASE don't tell me we're in for a hard winter - how sure are you about that?

Where?

18 Jul, 2012

Yes Paul I agree and the Jubilee Celebrations as well, our bbq is still on hold, my spring flowers lasted for ages this year but it seems as though we`ve jumped straight into autumn, only a few of the summer ones have survived all the wet and the ones that have are very straggly already...

19 Jul, 2012

Each storm clears the air and each strong wind makes peeling to trees.:))
