thrifty ways

hello every one,

i’ve been reading Alyce Fowlers book thrifty gardening ( a bargain from the works book shop for about £1.50) and she tells you some great ways to save money and how to build things like compost bins and cold frames, from pallets. As well as what containers you can use and how to get the best from them. like wooden boxes for planters by painting them with oil and letting them dry really well and they last for years.

any way back to the point of this blog!

i has you will know, if you have read any of my other blogs, am very keen on finding free things to garden with and cheap garden stuff and BARGAINS!!!!

so i thought we should start a blog or a page to post all of our bargains on to and where we got them. for things local to you and for the chain store which tend to have similar products everywhere so we can all run down and grab a bargain.

as well as any crazy ideas we all have to save money, utilise found stuff or junk in our gardens.

what do you think?
i look forward to hearing your views.

ps i haven’t done any gardening this last week as i’m still trying to decided what shape and where to put my new border. i’m also stalling on trying to dig out the thistle roots on the other side of the veg patch the stems are about four inch round. oh well

Good idea Kat pPink. We already get a lot of recycling ideas on this site such as Bobg and his bbq being one of the latest.
A really inspiring one I came across was a woman who had a beautiful cottage garden totally grown from seed. She had bought a packet of seeds a week instead of cigarettes when she was giving up smoking. As I say inspiring but I've still got to get round to giving up the weed

Great idea Kat....not sure any bargains I find would benefit anyone though....unless you all want to fly over here to pick things up!! LOL

Oooo....that's a good idea Pip....a package of seeds a week....but then again, when would you stop? Would you have to start smoking again to stop? Otherwise you'd have more flowers than you could deal with. LOL.
Good idea though.....maybe I should give it a try.

The works, a great place for gardening book bargains. I've bought a few there over the years! As well as wildlife and cookbooks!

At this time of year (it might be a week late now) Wilkinnsons have 50 and 75% savings on selected gardening goods!
