My life is full of stress… Life of an immigrant is not easy… Some of you know that too well. Some just don’t like us. But everybody wants to live, you know.
For example me – have a look at day of my life.
Found myself a nice place to live, nice and quiet garden, birds singing in the morning, not too busy road in the distance. I was settling in OK. Lovely neighbours, lovely view from the back garden.

There is a security guard that makes sure everything is under control

Such a good life….
But good things don’t last forever I am affraid….
Everything started after the breakfast….
I had a lovely meal – my favourite:

I was having a little siesta when I heard someone coming…
Someone started to pick me up, I tried to escape but couldn’t!!!
- What is going on? – I thought.
Suddenly I endend up in something small and strange.

Somebody call 911!!!! It’s emergency!!!
Hey! what’s that? a cover? I’ll suffocate without the air!!! Help!!!

What’s that noise? where we are moving?

OMG – what’s that????
Somebody call the Police!!! Polizei!!! Policja!!!
She wants to drown me!!!!
Oh, what a relief… going back to the car…

Next stop – a fresh air!!! I can breath again!!!

Lets have a look – where are we???
Hmm – yellow, blue, rural….. Not sure what to think about it…;/

Hey, you!!! Where do you think you’re going???? Don’t leave me here! Alone! I can’ cope!!!
I miss you! I love you! Please don’t go!!!!
:((((
I will survive, you know… Tough life of immigrant:(

Great blog! Thoroughly enjoyed it, & the photos too. Now I will worry about every snail I 'relocate'!

27 Apr, 2012

Love you, Beetle Protector. Every thing on this planet has its place. Needless to say to you. :)

28 Apr, 2012

:) yes the view is lovely indeed. Can't get enough of it. Different every day:)
My slugs and snails are finding a new home behind the fence - most of the time;-(
As for life of immigrant - I really enjoy living here. Not sure about the Red Beetle. Covered my ears and drove off, lol.

I have pretty much worked in every European country and have been made to feel welcome in all of them. My attempts at speaking the local languages always go down well. Hello, please, thank you, morning, yes and no are easy to say and I try and learn them even if I am just visiting. I personally do not think of Europeans as immigrants, the more I travel in Europe the more similarities that I see. In Tallinn the shop keepers sweep the street outside their premises right to the middle of the road (like my mum and grandad said we used to do here), they also have days when everyone in the neighbourhood tidies up their street - again something I remember from childhood, cutting down weeds, collecting rubbish etc. There is a shared culture if not a shared language.

Never seen one of those. The only immigrants we've got here are English ;o)
Most of them are nice ...

28 Apr, 2012

Never seen a lily beetle hywel? Lucky you.

28 Apr, 2012

Lol, Hywel, you are Welsh, right? Lol.
Kildermorie, where are you from?

28 Apr, 2012

Hi Kasy .. lovely blog... good story, great pics ..
I love the view from the back garden. :o)

28 Apr, 2012

What a view! Its totally beautiful but as for that 'red beetle' aaaaarrrrrgggghhh. Sorry but I squash mine :~(

28 Apr, 2012

i like this blog, i usually collect snails and take them to a farmers field over the road from me. I let the lily beetles eat my flowers last year, because they looked so cute! but i had no lillies left, ive just caught 2 of them this year already and im afraid i fed them to the chickens:-( but i think you are lovely for not killing them, they all belong on earth, pests as well!

28 Apr, 2012

That´s nice Justdawn. It just come into my mind, such strange idea: that you have no lillies left this year because of beetles. But I think that is warning for you - you must plant much much more lilies :)

28 Apr, 2012

good thought katarina but they destroyed all mine last year, i wondered if it was because i had got more that they had arrived!!

this year the crown imperials [where i first spotted the beetles] have come up but no flowers.

I've never seen a lily beetle either. Fantastic blog though. You have a great imagination Kasy.Could have been the start of a childrens book. Something to think about.

28 Apr, 2012

G s is right :) Pictures and story is like fairy tale, Kasia.

28 Apr, 2012

Have you two shown where you are on the global map blog?!

28 Apr, 2012

@Katarina, I am from Scotland. Have not worked in Slovenia though I have been to Bratislava for training if that counts?

28 Apr, 2012

Hi, Kildermorie, nice to meet you. Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia, not Slovenia, Slovenia is more to the South. Do not worrry, this is common misunderstanding. Even George Bush permanently located us to former Yugoslavia :)))) I like Scottish people. I knew several fine guys, from Greenpeace, medicine and one was pilot.

I was trying to remember the flag and country and type as my kids ran around! I remember the new old castle (not as new as Warsaw's medieval castle from 1980!) in Bratislava. People were friendly!

28 Apr, 2012

Now that had me going at first, then I had to start again after having a good laugh.
Sorry I do not have anything against immigrants as long as they are prepared to live fairly in my world BUT if they eat their way through my domain, then that is unacceptable, I do not believe its fair to inflict them on someone else either, so by Royal Command they get rewarded with The Order Of The Boot...Aplogies if that seems a bit harsh but I am a law abiding citizen, lol....

28 Apr, 2012

now i know what im looking for as ive never seen one before(im a squisher sorry)i wonder if thats why My lilys have never grown

29 Apr, 2012

@Kildermorie, Warsaw was almost completely leveled to the ground by Germans in the World War II, especially due to Warsaw uprising, that is why they do not have so many old buildings. However, Warsaw is not traditional capital of Poland. For centuries it was Cracow. And its castle - Wawel - is older then Buckingham Palace and even Windsdor Castle.
The new old castle in Bratislava, which you mentioned looks new, but its oldest parts are from the 9th century. It was several times destroyed by wars and fires and rebuilt.

Thank you guys for all your comments.
We could say all bad and things about immigration - but I don't want to go deeper into it. The only thing I want to say - most of us would be more than happy to stay in our countries if only live was acceptable there. So many of us are struggling simply having to choose between buying food or paying for a bills. This is my second imigration and I have to admit - I love it here. People in UK are so nice, so friendly and for me being a gardener it's like Heaven on Earth, really. Lol. In my country growing season is basicly from end of April and ends at the end of October. Can you imagine frost (very often -25 C degrees, snow up to your knees for weeks... Brrrrr. (memories of my last winter back in Poland - the petrol frozen in our cars - couldn't move for few days). We have mild winters as well. When customers are asking my if a particular plant is hardy here I am always saying - it is growing in my country so it is Really hardy here, lol.
And what I personally love here as well is a similar sense of humour.
As for pests in my garden - my slugs and snails are taking free flying lessons over the fence. But you can see some blu granules among my plants as well:(
Well - as we've agreed - life is tough.
And when I've discovered that Lily Beetle came to UK in 1940's it gave me and idea of that blog. Glad you enjoyed it and it made you laugh.

29 Apr, 2012

i love the free flying lessons!! you are funny kasy!! thats brilliant!!!

29 Apr, 2012

That's and old castle, and an old, new old castle!

29 Apr, 2012

Kasia, if you put marble chippings or whatever chippings around the plants you want to stay untouched by slugs, you won´t need chemicals. I have several years of experience. Marble chippings are the best, but could be whatever small sharp stones. The plants and snails will stay both alive. Good luck.
Of course if you are dioxine/acid rain fan, then you will choose more drastic method.
That comment was good!

Someone told me egg shells work as well is that right?

29 Apr, 2012

I have no experience. But as they are of organic origin and are fragile too, they can soon turn ineffective. Marble chippings are forever ( like diamonds :)

30 Apr, 2012

I tried the eggshells, they did break down quick. Small sharp chippings are better!

30 Apr, 2012

You should see me at work Pippa - whenever I find a slug or snail I am taking it with me to the fence, it's flying and I'm saying - 'there is a better life for you on the other side. The grass is there, not here'. lol.
Thank you for your advice - my only problem is if I'd put it in my pots I won't be able if soil looks dry or not.... hmmmm... unless I put the marbles around the pots.... ;-)

30 Apr, 2012

Sunshine today so gardening is top priority, I`ve checked my pots and pleased to say no red tenants moved in yet so didn`t need my boots, lol, last year I only found them on one pot and that was a lot further into the summer, fingers xx they stay away...

30 Apr, 2012

I found some in the GC!

30 Apr, 2012

1 May, 2012

1 May, 2012

ouch..... did you tell them? lol

1 May, 2012

no!!! i might have done if the GC were smaller ~ these were actually on a 'show garden' outside the main shopping area.

1 May, 2012

:)

1 May, 2012

very clever kasy, at first look anyone would think this is about a lily beetle but when you look closer its about flaunting the fact that you still have the lunchbox someone gave you and haven't given it back!!

18 May, 2012

lily beetle chutney anyone??

18 May, 2012

Stevie - help me improve my memory - what was in the lunchbox?
Sticki - in todays market every trick counts.
Next time I'll collect them (beetles) and send them over to you, ok?

18 May, 2012

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO i dont want any more.

18 May, 2012

But you need to come with a new recipe for a chutney, right?
