Secret Corner alterations

This is how it looked in July. I’d been threatening that Clematis ‘Love Child’ with a ‘prune’ all year. It is beautiful, and grows in this deeply shaded spot, but it hadn’t many flowers on this year and needed some attention.

As with many things that ‘need attention’ in my garden, it ended up coming out completely. The roots were small and dry. I think it had had it’s life in that spot, poor thing. Never mind, time for a change.

It looks ok now. Tider. Remember that cut off from the big mirror in the long border. I put it there rather than throw it away. Hmmm……really could do with a better mirror here, it’s an ideal spot for one as it’s so shady. So off I went to scour my favourite mirror sellers online…..they are soooooo expensive aren’t they? Then I found this one on Amazon…much more reasonably priced, but not quite right, and when it arrived I have to say, it was much ‘rougher’ than it looks in this photo….

So, after some treatment with a can of black spray paint…..here we are…..

Better I think….goes ok with the furniture in that corner.

One of the things I love about gardening, is how little time and effort it takes to make a big change…..and it’s so satisfying when you stand back and think ‘nice job’ :)

lovely Karen. I love the use of mirrors in the garden especially in corners like yours :-))

That looks lovely Karen, but aren't you worried a bird might fly into the mirror!

Great job Karen, love a good mirror :-)

That works so well, what a great change, given it a whole new design look. I hope we get a night photo when the lights are on too.

THanks everyone. Rose, I've not had a problem with birds on the mirrors, but I have lost some on the conservatory windows. I've placed deterrants on them now though, so that should do the job. It is a bit funny to watch the birds attacking their own reflections on the mirrors though!

Thank you Cinders, the corner has lost all of it's original 'japanese' flavour now, but it has become more of a 'sanctuary' with this little bit of Gothic! :)

Yes, very nice too.

I bet that has thrown quite a bit of light into that shady nook Karen, and by painting the surround black it seems to have shown up the planting more. Great job, love it.

Thank you both. Yes, the mirrors are great for bringing light to dingy corners. The large one on the long woodland border makes a huge difference. Thanks PP, I shall be popping out shortly just to have a look at it! :)
