Mamiku Gardens St Lucia

OH has gone off to the village to watch the Arsenal match, so here are a few pics of the lovely orchids etc. we saw at Mamiku Gardens this morning….I hope these make you feel warmer and fill you full of the joy of nature :))…enjoy!

Sorry I don’t have the names of them. The citrus is grapefruit, and the last one is hibiscus, but apart from that….no clues…Meanie will know some of them …perhaps he will let me know? :) K

Amazing pics - you must be having a wonderful holiday! I wonder what that fruit with all the little holes in can be?

that white orchid is so beautiful.

Isn't it Sticki....It's amazing to see them growing wild on the trees here. i am waiting for one to open on a tree in the garden at the hotel here...can't wait to see the colour of it. The lady who owns the hotel is very keen on her plants and has lots of orchids all over the place.

Now, re the fruit...it is Noni...famous for it's healing properties, especially useful for those with cancer as it is supposed to prevent hair loss. Unfortunately it stinks and tastes disgusting, but I'm sure I've seen it for sale in Health food shops...probably altered to make it palatable.

Thanks everyone...just a few replies to comments above...

Yes, we are having a lovely time thank you all.

Gattina, I am 'always' glad to get home...there's no place like it is there! ? :))

Louise, we first came here on our honeymoon 22 1/2 years ago now. It has changed an awful lot since then, but is still beautiful of course. Glad we brought back some good memories for you!

Bloomer, thank you for your concern, I nearly threw up on landing at Gatwick, but managed to keep my breakfast down ...just! :)) After that it was ok as much bigger place from Gatwick to here. I had the same problem last May when I went to Chelsea (do you recall) the gale on that day was equally devastating and we flew through it as we left Aberdeen! I seem to be attracting gale force wind at the moment..while flying!! :))

Stevie, I have been thinking...how much do you think it would cost to have a blacksmith hammer me out a large piece of copper or Steel for a bowl like that? It's absolutely wonderful isn't it. Instant pond! Pity they couldn't get it level, but there is almost no level ground at all on this Island!

Thank you all the rest of you for your lovely comments. I am so glad you are enjoying the photos. I am enjoying the fact that I can still chat with you here. We just spent the day on the beach in the bay, and to come back here and have half an hour or so on the computer is lovely...sharing it all with you...feels like we are all still together! :))

Beautiful pics Karen, just looked you up on the map. Such a tiny place! Have you visited any of the other islands?
I just love those orchids and that lovely plant of yellow and red, edged with green. Would love to see that in full bloom. Have a great time and safe journey home..

I`m not a fan of Orchids but to see them like this growing in their natural habitat makes me appreciate just how lovely they are.
Nice to know the holiday is a good one enjoy the rest of your stay.

10 Jan, 2012

The photo below the white Phalaenopsis orchid is a Heliconia. :) And I think the 4th photo from the top is a bouganvillea.

Thanks so much for sharing these dazzling wonders.

12 Jan, 2012

Ah yes, of course, I forgot to name the bougainvillea Tralamander...that's one I 'do' know. Thanks for the Heliconia. It's strange...I always, well almost always, remember the names of the plants I grow...but houseplant or tropical plants...I can never remember them! Just shows, we remember what we are interested in!

12 Jan, 2012

Thankyou for posting these photos, Karen ... such rich colours and what a variety of plants ... I imagine you are back home in not so tropical Scotland now ... :o(

20 Jan, 2012

Oh yes Shirley...here we are in sunny Scotland again. I am really happy to be home. The ground is not frozen and there are soooo many flowers on my Coronilla..what a lovely sight it is at the front door...will post photo soon...and today I planted three new Cytisus Battandieri trees to fill in the gaps between the silver birches...can't wait for the spring now! :) Hellebores are just beginning to start flowering!

20 Jan, 2012

Your happiness shines through in your comment, Karen ... I hope to take a wander around my garden later to see if any flowers are out yet ... :o)
