You just never know....

You just never know when bad things are going to happen do you? Yesterday I was in the Garden Centre with a friend, helping her to choose new plants for her young garden. I even managed to get the plants I wanted (four more Cirsium Rivulare) and a few extras. Next thing, the mobile phone rings and I’m standing there in the middle of the GC in the sunshine, hearing that my Son Callum (19) has had an accident chopping wood and has chopped right into his ankle bone, and is in Accident and Emergency…waiting to go into operating theatre…so, enjoy your garden and remember to pray for the safety of your family…..I’ll be back soon….don’t worry about me, I’m ok and Callum has a nice shiny metal bracket in his ankle now and they are letting him out of hospital later today. Clearly I’m going to be busy, especially as his friend arrived from USA last night and we will have to look after both of them now…..so, I’ll catch you all later, as they say!! :)) I know you will all be thinking of us xx

Oh Karen, I can't even bear to think about it - the poor lad. I wish him a speedy and successful recovery.

13 Jun, 2011

Well you know boys and their axes. Best to practise on himself and not anyone else. He is not having a good year is he poor love. I swear children are more of a worry the older they get and then they bring more troubles along in the form of the next generation. This is only your apprenticeship Karen. Having said that we all count our blessings and know we would be far poorer without our youngsters. Give hima big hug and hopefully you will be able to get out and about sightseeing with him and his friend. If he cannot walk far the Red Cross will hire you a wheelchair. I'm glad you are feeling fine. Sneaky really but it is nice to be needed. He will be off again before you know it. Love and hugs to you all.

13 Jun, 2011

Yikes, what a nasty shock for you Karen, just when you were in the middle of a happy day. Bet Callum feels bad about his accident, but the good thing is he'll be more careful next time. We all learn the hard way!

Hope your heart-rate has slowed down now, and very warmest wishes to you all. xx

13 Jun, 2011

Thanks everyone. I knew you would all be thinking of us. He's home, thank goodness, three lots of antibiotics and a metal plate in his bone. Crutches, which is better than a wheelchair! He's fast asleep just now and I am just about to go to the GP with all the dressings for the nurse....and, oh, joy of joys, my washing machine has just broken down!!! Good grief, what next? lol.....see you all soon! xx

14 Jun, 2011

Good morning Karen glad to hear you sounding so chirpy. At least he has the pleasure of sitting out in your beautiful garden to recuperate. Good luck with the washing machine.

14 Jun, 2011

I hit it really hard three times and it's working fine!! :))

14 Jun, 2011

Lol,Karen..who needs technology..! :o)

14 Jun, 2011

Ohhh I thought that WAS technology!!

14 Jun, 2011

Lol Karen, I think that's what's referred to as the 'Organic Approach' - works for me too, accompanied by a few choice words delivered sternly at 110 decibels! :-0

15 Jun, 2011

Sadly it has now totally given up life altogether!

15 Jun, 2011

Hi Karen how are you and the rest of the gang today? How is that grandson of mine, hope he is ok. Have you been visiting lots of places with his friend from America. Tell Callum not to do too much for a start, he will be tired for a while, stress and all that. Hope his ankle is ok and that he is not being too much of a pain for you. By the way Michaella says hi and that she is thinking and praying for you all. I said I would pass on the message for her.

15 Jun, 2011

Thanks Mum and Michaella. Callum is stuck in for the next two weeks at least. He is not allowed to walk, except to get to the loo etc., and he isn't allowed to put any weight on his injured leg. Rachel is an absolute heroine, she is taking Amanda all over. They went to Dundee yesterday, St Andrews today, and tomorrow they are off to Edinburgh, staying overnight and coming home on Friday. What a week she has had.....she is my absolute heroine this week! I couldn't have coped without her. Thankfully, they are getting on really well...Amanda is a smasher. They made up a song about Callum and the Axe...so funny! I am trying to get them to put actions to it and put it on U-Tube. They managed to get the words 'frankle' (ryhmes with 'ankle') Glaiket (Gormless) and Eejits (Idiots) in there as well, I was very impressed!! Clearly they are managing to have some fun!

15 Jun, 2011

Oh that is good, at least Amanda is not missing out, Rachel is a star. How is Callum's mood is he frustrated or coping ok with the situation. Amanda sounds great. Look forward to the song on u.tube.

15 Jun, 2011

Tell Rachel not to get too close because those crutches have a nasty habit of bopping you one on bad days.

15 Jun, 2011

lol...too true! No, he's a fairly laid back sort. He's ok, he has studying to do for resits, his computer games, and his friends all on facebook too. He is doing fine. I just hope there is no lasting handicap for him. He is worried he won't ever be able to run again because of the weakness in his ankle, but I think as long as he allows it to heal properly first, it will be fine. Just hope the metal plate never gives him any bother...that's the only potential problem that I can foresee....we'll see what the surgeon says on 28th.

15 Jun, 2011

Just realised he will bleep the electronics at the airport from now on. Tell him that is ok cos Grandad Paul would do that also. LOL It will take time to heal, he should get physio. also to help once it has healed that will help him to get mobility back into it. Bionic man now!!

15 Jun, 2011

If its any help, I have a metal plate just above my ankle, from a broken ankle, and I don't know its there, its the ligaments that might give him a bit of gyp. but if he takes it steady in the beginning it should be ok.

15 Jun, 2011

Sorry to hear about Callum's accident, hope you are ok too, and hope he has a speedy recovery. All the best.

15 Jun, 2011

Kids! the older they get, the more you worry about them lol. Hope he's OK karen, and not doing your head in to much :)))

15 Jun, 2011

Snap Daisy, 'Kids', who'd have them, as the saying goes, but we wouldnt be without them now would we? Hope Callum recovers well, Karen, he's sure to with Mum's TLC. x

16 Jun, 2011

We are coping well! Thanks everyone! xx

16 Jun, 2011

16 Jun, 2011

your right you never know one minute to the next, thank heavens hes ok

16 Jun, 2011

Thank you Pondlady. Time will tell. Once he sees the surgeon again and gets the all-clear, I will feel a lot better.
So far, so good and no infection.

16 Jun, 2011

Oh dear Karen! Hope all's fixed and mends well, it is shocking when it's your child isn't it.....my love to you all, as you know, we're on tenterhooks here with Ian, I've been racing around to the hosp and drs, just waiting to rush back for more medication.........like you I've just been round my garden for a few minutes of therapy. XX

17 Jun, 2011

Thank you Helen....Callum is doing so well. He is back at work...they kept his student part-time job for him..he is very lucky! He has had no problem at all from the wound or from the metal in his ankle and seems to be absolutely fine now..he's even back at the gym when he has time. It is a huge relief that it is all done and finished with now. I hope he never ever picks up another axe though! :)) Thanks for your care and concern, I do appreciate it! :))
