Sheila put up a blog about Coton Manor some time ago and I went on to their website to have a look. On there they have some stunning pics. of bluebell woods and I was inspired to attempt an oil painting.

I don’t like putting it up on here, I am not very proud of it, but my daughter really loves it, so I shall have it framed for her.

I’ve really put it on here as I promised San, and also so that my Mum can see it and see that I am not only doing abstract nonsense!

So, here is my interpretation of Coton Manor bluebell woodland……you can see the real thing here…http://www.growsonyou.com/sheilabub/blog/13305-another-thrilling-garden

Thanks Sheila!

Brilliant Karen.
I can see now why your garden is so well designed and beautifully planted, I didn`t know that you were such a good artist. Your painting is so lovely it makes me want to run through those trees.
Your daughter is a lucky girl.

Stroller, you are very kind. Thank you so much, that is a really lovely thing to say about my painting. This is my first representational oil painting in....oh....32 years! I really want to do a lot more and having your encouragement will certainly help me to continue!

24 Apr, 2011

You should be very very proud Karen, that painting deserves to be in an exhibition, its stunning.

24 Apr, 2011

Thank you GG. I am so glad you like it. Sadly, I can see far too much that is wrong with it...but that's me I'm afraid....

24 Apr, 2011

Karen, it's staggeringly stunning!! Absolutely beautiful, and I'm delighted to have indirectly been the inspiration. I'm actually shaking my head in admiration at your skill. As Stroller says - your daughter is a lucky girl - you really should be proud of it, it is so professional-looking. Hope you'll sign it!

24 Apr, 2011

Yes I thought that Sheila, sign it Karen, a nice keepsake for your daughter.

24 Apr, 2011

I have signed it in yellow, bottom right....(blushes) :) Thank you so much Sheila, you are a lovely lady. What would I do without all your encouragements!

24 Apr, 2011

Thank you (more blushes) - wonder what you'll paint next?!

24 Apr, 2011

Yes, I wonder too!.....we'll see, something will take my imagination......

24 Apr, 2011

that painting is fantastic, well done, makes me feel like I am there walking amongst the bluebells,

24 Apr, 2011

Thats wonderful Karen, I love the trees too. Bluebell woods have always been a favourite since I was little. My brother has a bluebell wood on his smallholding. Your picture is brilliant

24 Apr, 2011

Thank you both. I have always loved them too. I love woodland generally actually.....always have. That's why I've planted so many trees in my garden! lol :))

24 Apr, 2011

You should be very proud of that its quite stunning. I think the perspective in this picture is good as I really feel I can enter this picture and take that walk.

24 Apr, 2011

Karen that is really good, I`d be proud to have that on show, lucky daughter......

24 Apr, 2011

Ime speechless Karen, but having got my breath back i think you have such a fantastic talent, that picture is so amazing and seems so real, and you should be so proud of yourself, its the type of picture that you can just look at and imagine yourself strolling thrugh the woods, you should post more, julien.

24 Apr, 2011

What a picture - literally. It is so nice Karen and just what a bluebell wood should look like. I can see that you are not just a talented gardener but a brilliant artist as well. How clever you are.

I used to paint as well many years ago and took art as a GCE subject but my forte was really architecture although I did like abstract painting and flower painting.
I always liked to copy as I'm not so good as an inventive painter but that was over 40 years ago and I am long out of practice. No time or inspiration these days.

I am always so pleased though when I see these hidden talents come forth from people who are so clever in other fields, as you are with your garden.

I do hope you can continue if you have time - happy gardening AND painting.

BRILLIANT PAINTING. IT APPEARS THAT WE HAVE MANY TALENTED ARTISTS HERE ON G.O.Y.
I CAN MENTION KAREN AND SANBAZ FOR THE PAINTINGS AND HYWEL FOR THE POTTERY.
I AM SURE THERE MUST BE MANY MORE WHO I DO NOT REMEMBER NOW.
GARDENING IS NOT THE ONLY SKILL AFTER ALL.

24 Apr, 2011

24 Apr, 2011

you should do more ~ you will be selling them fast!

24 Apr, 2011

Nothing to add that has not already been said...... our middle daughter has the talent and like you has not picked up a paint brush in 20 years, I shall show her this beautiful painting and perhaps it might encourage her to start again, congratulations.

24 Apr, 2011

Karen, you underestminate your gift...this painting is one that draws the viewer into the woods so perfectly I can almost smell the place :)

Your daughter is going to treasure that painting forever and rightly so....and what love and pride your mom showed in her comment too. You do realize what a special lady you are, I sincerely hope. x

I am so pleased you shared this painting with us.

25 Apr, 2011

Stunning Karen !

25 Apr, 2011

Thank you Paul :)) and Sticki! :)) DottyD, I really hope your daughter does too...it has been great fun for me!
Jacquie, you are so kind, I think I am going to adopt you as my new auntie! You are a really special lady, so encouraging and generous! Thank you! :)) Thanks Judy! :))

25 Apr, 2011

Karen hold on a second. It's not ok! It brilliant! I thought when I first glanced at it that it was a pic of another Bluebell wood which I just lovvvvve but then to realize it's a painting. Oh my goodness I just want to run away with it and put in on my wall to dream into it every day.

It's really beautiful so well painted the trees and path that makes me just want to do a Chronicles Of Narnia thing and walk into it.

I suggest b4 u give it away to take some really good pics of it and try to have prints made to sell. U have a really great talent there and stop underestimating your self.

Between your beautiful garden and the beautiful pics u take u could put together a beautiful coffee table book on flowers and nature in England.
Get to work girl! :-)

Thanks for sharing.

Karen, that's a great idea of Angie's. We have a branch of Prontoprint here: I have had several of my paintings copied in colour, then miniaturised to just less than an A6 "window card" from local art-supplies shop. I use them as home-made cards, but you could sell yours! :))

27 Apr, 2011

You are both very kind. I will look into that. I have a friend who will be able to advise me on that kind of thing. Using them as cards sounds like a great idea Shelia!

27 Apr, 2011

It's saved me "pounds" over the years, Karen. I very rarely buy a commercial card these days, as friends say they enjoy getting the ones I make!

27 Apr, 2011

Yes, they would do. A very special way of giving cards.

27 Apr, 2011

:)))

27 Apr, 2011

Oh Karen that is just beautiful

28 Apr, 2011

Thank you Annie x

29 Apr, 2011

Karen...it's Auntie Jacquie here...checking in...lol I'm so far behind on reading blogs I wonder if there is any chance at all of ever catching up! lol

Having copies printed of your bluebell painting is a wonderful idea...I think you have definitely got a natural gifting for making the ordinary beautiful and that is so evident in your garden and now in your painting. Lucky gal. x

29 Apr, 2011

Thanks Auntie J!! I may just do that. I will ask about it tomorrow before I take the painting down to the framers. I'm just back home from a few days in Amsterdam, so I have loads of photographs to download and a couple of blogs to write.....there's no chance of my catching up with everyone, so I know how you feel!

29 Apr, 2011

Ooops....fogot to mention J...I got my card, thank you. x

29 Apr, 2011

:) You are most welcome, Karen. x

29 Apr, 2011

sorry im late karen didnt come up on my page but found it anyway, your painting looks even better than last time, have you added to it since, have you signed it yet by the way, you must, we are told always to sign your paintings, its beautifull karen, well done. await the next master piece :o)))

29 Apr, 2011

Ha! You found it! Yes, it's signed. Yes, remember I didn't think it was finished so I went back and added quite a lot more from last time I showed you it San. I'm much happier with it now. Looking forward to starting another painting, I want to do something for the kitchen and something for the living room, so red theme on one and terracotta and indigo on the other. I might actually have a go at mixed media next, using beads and sequins etc. as well as oils.....I got a lovely big mixed media pic. from TKMax for my living room and I might try doing something to compliment that for the other wall. It will be two box canvasses, quite large, or a really big wide single one.....just beginning to get ideas at the moment. For the kitchen I am definitely seeing a big red flower.....just waiting for inspriation...perhaps one of these photos!

29 Apr, 2011

glad you added to it can see the difference and not being afraid to get some paint on, brightness and colour really makes a painting i think, the new ideas sound great to karen, look forward to seeing them.
i have my first commission lol boss`s daughter wants a large painting on canvas done similar to my tulip painting but a larger scale, its for a present for her brother who has a new house and need large for behind the sofa and its high ceiling, she loved my tulips and thought the red on black would be great as they have red carpet and plain walls, not needed till xmas so plenty of time and will go in exabition in august first. im really excited :o) so keep it up karen your doing well x

29 Apr, 2011

You too San! Great to have a commission! I hope I don't get any, I couldn't take the pressure!

29 Apr, 2011

well i feel a bit like that karen but as iv done similar im ok with it and have lots of time, if it were something completly different i dont think i would have said yes.
