Today was the day that I met with Scotkat (Kath), Alzheimer (Carole) and two other lovely gardening friends; Sue and Morag for lunch at the Dundee Botanic Gardens.
Here we are after our lunch…..in the plant shop as usual. From left to right, Kath, Me, Sue, Morag, Carol.
It really was a very enjoyable lunch and a joy to meet some new gardening friends as I had only met Kath before. Kath and I meet fairly regularly, at Dobbies near here for plant purchasing and chat. Carol came down from Stonehaven and it was lovely to meet another GOYer. Sue and Morag are friends of Kaths and chat on her special website.
Anyway, after lunch we had a stroll around the garden and I did take some pics for you…..
Of some Magnolia flowers that were way up high out of reach…
Some Rhododendrons……
My favourite tree…Acer Griseum…..
Silver Birch….
A lovely twisted trunk of a Eucalyptus Gunnii…..
Bloodroot (Sanguinarea Canadensis)…..
Trillium….
A new addition to the garden, designed by the winner of an Architecture Competition for the students…..
And Some Monkey Puzzle shapes……
Thank you ladies for your company and especially to Kath for organising the event and paying for the lunch …I know, how generous was that? :))))

What a good idea to meet up with some of the GOYers near you. It's such a nice way of making new friends with a common interest.

Yes indeed - it was a real joy to meet up with like minded - if younger(!) gardening friends and our tongues never lay - as you can all imagine!
We will certainly do it again and any other GOYers who live in our neck of the woods would be very welcome.
I have already suggested that Crathes Gardens would make a good venue - but sadly they don't have hot-houses. Still there is plenty scope for the photographers at Crathes....LOL

That is the one that Rachel, Callum and I went and walked round once when I came up on a visit Karen. It is an amazing place all those beautiful trees and of course a lovely little cafe to eat in. Pleased you all enjoyed yourselves. Brought back memories can you remember it Callum skateboarded all the way there and back, Rachel and I just ambled along. lol.

ps. Wish I lived closer then I would join you all. Would be a slower walk around these days though, the legs and back don't like walking now.

That must have been a long time ago now. But I only have a vague memory of it.

Mum, you, Janey, Simbad, Lincslass....could meet up!
8 Apr, 2011
Yes it is a long time ago, think Callum was about 10 yrs old, if not younger. Yes we could all meet up at Silica it is just getting myself organised I suppose. Will have to do it.

What a great day out for you all. I too have met up with other Goyers and it is a wonderful way of getting to know our members. I think you started it all Spritz with your pictures of Goyers at your Open Day.
What happened to the acer which seems to have grown Rhodo flowers Karen. I have visited these gardens and they are a lovely oasis in the city.
11 Apr, 2011
Sorry SG, I don't know what you mean about the acer/rhody!
11 Apr, 2011
Under the red rhodo it says My favourite tree - Acer griseum. That is definitely a rhododendron flower. The yellow with red throat. It is not the paperbark maple -acer griseum. I think your hand slipped there. Your photographs are very clear. My eyesight is not what it was but looking more closely you have posted the same rhodo x 2. Above and below the red one. I think you can swap the second one for the acer. It does not take away from your lovely blog.

All in all a wonderful way to spend a day.
Looking at your photos Karen I think I must have a silver birch for the bottom of my garden, the rhodos are beautiful, but its the birch that does it for me.
12 Apr, 2011
Yes indeed, a silver birch is a good thing in any garden, except teeny weeny ones! I have five in mine...Jacquemontii and ordinary Utilis..all have lovely white bark which cheers me through the winter months!
12 Apr, 2011
Glad you all enjoyed your day :o)
