my apple tree

has white furry fungus growing on its branches, this year only prouced 3 yes 3 apples! but this i think is due to an over zelous husband (pruning i mean). could anybody tell me what this fugus is and how to treat it

This sounds like woolly aphid Julieann so not a fungus as such.Easiest way is to simply hose them off a bit like you would greenfly .
Yes pruning at wrong time can leave trees oozing sap
aphids attracted to sap.
Apples best pruned after fruiting - late autumn.
