Its been a year since my son introduced me to the computer. We have a computer in the house for many years and I never learned it as i was always busy working. When i retired I took up gardening not knowing much about all the different types of plants, my son suggested that we would look up the internet so I could learn more about the plants I had in my garden. He had great patience and sat me down to start my first lesson “how to press the ON button”. After some lessons i started my adventure on my own and with luck I found “Grow on You”.

After joining i wanted to be able to respond to all the lovely photos and blogs and learn to add my own so off I went to the shops to buy myself a digital camera, finally after picking up some courage I uploaded my first photo to my amazement of my 25 year + cactus.

My first blog “Chilli and Peppers” to my amazement I got some “likes and comments” so Thank You everyone.

I know I have made some BOBO’S with my likes and comments so you will all have to forgive me I have to put it down to inexperience, Im still typing with one hand so takes me a while still to write my blogs etc, bring on this year and hope to improve with 2 hands so I can get faster to respond to all of you.

I would like to give a very big “Thank You” to all members for all your comments and answering my gardening questions especially a big thanks to Bamby, Hawel, Tugbreath, Volunters, Owdboggy, Beattie, Bamboo, Fractal, Anchorman, Spritzhenry, Bizzyb, Hidadrisser, Drc726, Stjohntongu, Pmg, Dogielie, Geraniumdar Moongrower and of course Yorkshire for all you wit.

I would also like to thank bamby again for answering my very first question on my Aloe Vera plant.

The Plant is still here good and healthy.

Well this year has been a real learning experience and been a great journey so far, lets hope more to come….

Well done John. You have come on really well with the computer. To do a blog and get the comments in between the photos as well. I like the cactus too.

Yes, pretty cactus and a very smart greenhouse you have there!
Nothing like GoY to inspire us to learn how to download, upload and blog is there! I photoraph everywhere I go (I have an excellent camera on my mobile phone!) I am always photographing things for GoY!!
My Dad had a bad back a few years ago, so while he couldn't walk much he learnt the computer, he loves it!

I also never touched a computor until I had retired and within the first year I had also discovered Goy, I have learnt more from being on here, both about gardening and using said computor than anywhere else, although have to say grandchildren make the best tutors within the home, lol,.
Smashing photographs Johnjoe, especially like your cactus.
The only problem I have with Goy is that so far it has been unable to download me with a lengthy supply of sunshine outside,( living with hope,SIGH)......

Great photos, faultless text and high standard presentation. You learned a great lot in a short time. CONGRATULATIONS!
Like you, I wasted many years fearing to touch the family computer in case I brake it.
Then I bought my own, played with it and now I can ever run my own website.

Great stuff,Johnjoe, keep it up.A lot of us were, and are, just like you, complete novices..and after 18months on here,I do feel a lot more confident. As long as I can do the basics, and add blogs and pictures..that is all I want.By the way,I have progressed to both hands now...one finger on each .!..it works for me,and I am in no hurry..retired,so all the time in the world Lol...We are never too old to learn,as they say..:o)

Yes Lincslass the grandchildren are great. I have them driven mad asking questions especially my daughter, they scatter when they see me at the computer. There is a battle to get at the computer first.

Congratulations to you Johnjoe ... your situation regarding computers is about the same as mine ... really didn't want one until January 2010 ... children taught me the basics which was good of them! Now ... like many others on GoY ... I am able to add photos to blogs and have picked up so many gardening tips on here. Also ... it's lovely to see plants from around the world ... so many are new to me! Carry on blogging! : o )))

Oh John what a lovely blog, well done, you have even written in between the photos which I can't do, I just love to see your photos when you put them on, we all had to start somewhere with the computer, my daughter travelled 200 miles to give me a crash course, my OH had a laptop for christmas from our daughter and son in law and he has amazed me to how he has taken to it, keep up the good work John, and thanks for your nice comment about me,

Hi Johnjoe, nice to meet you. Like you I found GOY by accident..and what a great bunch of guys and gals. What impresses me, is the way people have put their gardens together whether large or small, out of love for their space, and wanting to create their own little bit of paradise...It's been a bit hit and miss for me, as illness has slowed me down a lot, but gradually I'm catching up, and getting myself around this site more frequently nowadays. As for the PC, it was a godsend for me when it was all I had to occupy my mind, reading the news and different articles, and reading up on Plants etc and generally refreshing my mind on things I thought I had forgotten, making one or two internet pals along the way.
Many thanks for visiting my garden, you're very welcome.. :o))
