This is nice. I love to see grasses setting off other plants. My favourite spots in my garden always include grasses.

Wonderful photo. I tried to grow pink ones from bulbs, but they don't seem to like my garden conditions. No flowers at all, I think I saw a few leaves.

If you have room to keep some pots (or a willing friend/relative) try dividing off a piece of favourite herbaceous perennials. If you give a piece to a gardening friend you can beg a piece back next year! If you have an allotment you could move some small shrubs to it whilst they are dormant. Failing these ideas, keep an eye out for charity plant sales at town fairs to replenish your collection cheaply once you are settled in your new home.

Kept dry, dark and cool, most seeds will be ok. You can put them in the salad compartment of the frudge if you want to. There are some though which should be sown as fresh seed, things like alliums for example or Daphne berries or almost every member of the Ranuncula family.

Sorry to confess that at the moment my exchange posts are excess packets of seeds from seed companies! Maybe I should also try collecting from the garden...You are right about collecting and drying them in a paper bag, NOT plastic!

I haven't had problems with seeds - you normally get so many in a pack that I always sow extra to allow for some not to come up - but always thought that was me not the seed! I don't buy plug plants anymore - as with AndrewR they don't do as well as going to the garden centre and buying fresh.

There certainly are companies who don't pack their plants well, I've received plants half of which have been dead! They did replace them - but those were nearly as bad, so I just gave up. I stick to firms who I know give good service. I do buy seeds by mail order, and haven't had any problems. My magazine has only just arrived so I have not yet read the article.

I haven't had problems with seeds but I have had problems with a major company who send out plug plants. One year they sent me 80 plug plants the day before I went on holiday for three weeks (I had given them my holiday dates when I submitted my order). The next year they delivered penstemons instead of monarda and then failed to respond to my e-mails.I've had other problems with them too so now I've stopped using them completely.
