Mother nature...

while away for a few days the other week we took a walk along the coast, this is it …as the Morecambe bay coastline at Flooburgh is being washed away by the sea ..it looks like they are working hard to keep it at bay..

an old bunker on the beach..

these are used by the cockle pickers…

i was amazed at the way the sea has eaten into the coast, the shapes in the sods of earth it left behind after years of washing against it and chopping

as you can see in the distance..huge rocks are being piled up to stop this getting worse..

the rocks are enormous you can get an idea of how big they are compared to the bunker in 2nd pic..and they certainly are not short of them as they go on for a few miles.

you can see how high they are piling them up compared to the roof of a house behind…

lets hope it helps…

I know I certainly don't Joan..Shamefully

That's worrying. I hope they can help prevent it.

Its incredible what the sea can do to our coastline Joan. Whatever mankind does it can only hold it back for so long. When we were in Canada we visited an icefield and we were told in detail what was happening to the ancient ice floes. It really is melting at an incredible rate. It seems we ARE all guilty of whats happening to our planet.

hi Hywel ,looks like they are trying their best..
hi Sandra, its a worry isnt it especially when someone tells you in detail or you can see the results, then it hits home ..yes i suppose we are all guilty.

we have a similar problem on the east yorkshire coast. sadly if you save one area like this, the coast erodes further down. It is a phenomen that has been going on for centuries. There are loads of lost villages under the sea.

this is it if you stop it in one place ..it has to go somewhere else, like you say its been going on all this time, the problem isnt going to go away i think someone should be looking into this on a worldwide scale, well i suppose there must, be but the facts should be out there for everyone to see mind you i f you go on the net it is more than likely to be on there ,ive just never thought about it in depth till now ...
