nice sunny day yesterday

we had a nice sunny day yesterday so went up to allotment to keep ourselves busy, said we would just go for an hour at 12 noon,i had some more roses to plant, floribuna, mister lincoln a hybrid tea rose and spiraea, deutzia scabra also 4 gypsophila so i hope they will all take and help to cover the fence over the next few years to make the plot a bit more private,,

phew..

as i done this border ben made a start on the ground..

we took up a cherry tree that we had in a pot at home..

it is in centre of pic if you can spot it, there are a few apple trees here too so i will be pruning them when i can ,still a lot to do on the bank here..
and still a lot of rubbish to get rid of, we keep digging more & more up…
s

all in all a good 3 HOURS work so much for an hour lol…

oh what memories this brings me of when we took on an allotment, we found 3 bread knives in the compost heap which the previous chap used to cut a cabbage and then forgot to take the knife home !
Looks like you've made a great start on your plot, you'll be rewarded with lovely fresh produce before you know it. Well done.

You are really lucky Joanella having a sunny day, here in Norfolk we haven't seen the sun for days aand it is grey cold and dank.
You're also luck to have an allotment, and I think it deserves you too, the way you are getting down to it. I wish you many good harvests.

Hi Joanella, we had our allotment for about 18 months, just mentioned it to my old mum who reminded me the previous owner had failing eye sight with slight dementia which explains the forgotten bread knives ! He also put many polystyrene bits in the heap, once we;d sifted through, the compost was superb. Only gave up plot as i now maintain mums garden as well as my own, not enough hours in a day. Miss the fresh crops and flowers from it.

its a shame when people have to give them up through ill health as they miss the social side of it .on our site we have a chap in his mid 70s fit as a fiddle, bowling going on days out, took up wrestling believe it or not last summer and on his allotment a few times a week,i saw him 2 wks ago & he had a fall during the bad weather slipped on ice outside his front door,he was walking with the aid of a stick & did not look too good but i am hoping he bounces back from this & can get on his plot when we get a bit of warm weather..good tip the polystyrene it may work..it must be hard work for you doing two gardens, its hard enough with one..:o)

Lots going on there, Joanella - that fence looks seriously scary! It'll look so much better when your plants grow there. :-))
