5 Jan, 2010

Thats what ours was like before xmas Joanella, at the moment we only have a sprinkling but more expected. I`ve retired so don`t have to venture out much but hubby is multidrop delivery driver and most of my family have to travel to get to work, so like a lot of people I`m willing it to go without causing too much chaos..... Your photo`s are lovely to look at though unlike my garden as its all pawprints,lol.....

5 Jan, 2010

thank you gilli am doing, had to get plumber out today frozen pipe :o(((

5 Jan, 2010

thanks links, hope you dont get as much as we have,it is hard for people who have to travel, all buses stopped here this morn & i know lots that couldt get to work with the trains etc.just when you need it no salt, grit anywhere to be found lol, pawprints look nice..:o))

5 Jan, 2010

5 Jan, 2010

Hi Joanella it looks great in photo`s but can be frustrating for the poor souls who have to go to work, glad I`m retired. It started snowing here in the Midlands again at 9o`clock this morning and is still coming down unfortunately we are now getting the same scene as you.

5 Jan, 2010

Wow...Joanella...and only last night you were telling US to stay warm and safe !!!! More due here too and what we have had is freezing over ! Take good care.....Oh by the way...lovely tree pics !

5 Jan, 2010

Lovely pics,Joanella.Ours looks just the same hereStarted at 7am today, and still falling.I have ventured out 4 times to shovel some away for the birds, but as fast as you do it,its covered again..and they can't find it,poor things. We haven't been free since before xmas,so really fed up of it now.My cousins daughter has been stuck at Manchester airport for 5 hours now, trying to get back to florida, and they still had to turn up at the correct time,so its very hard for everyone concerned...not just travellers...

5 Jan, 2010

You do have deep snow. I wonder how much deeper it will get before it thaws ....

5 Jan, 2010

thanx san will try it after tea,yes airport closed i think manchesters closed at the moment lol
hi stroller, its not so bad if you can stay indoors, the children are loving it though, dozens of snowmen popping up all over :o)
hi bb yes i know didnt think we would get it this bad so sudden, still theres not a lot we can do about it just enjoy the views :o))

5 Jan, 2010

Another downside to the weather. My hubby has just rung to say the buses have been stopped where he works,so he is facing a 3 or 4 mile walk home, and thats the short cut.,I can see our main road, and traffic is moving well, but its a major road all the way to Manchester, and its hilly where he works,so buses can't get up there. It looks as though his dinner could be his supper.:o(( Thank goodness he is well prepared, and dressed for it....

5 Jan, 2010

oh bloomer feel sorry for your cousins daughter nothing worse than hanging around like that,i am the same with birds here i went out before it got dark to give them supper but as you say its getting covered i need some sort of bird umbrella lol hope it clears up soon for you :o)

7 Jan, 2010

What are the conditions like now?

9 Jan, 2010

Yorkshire will probably be same as yours in Lancs,Joanella,so bitterly cold, and icicles hanging off the conservatory and shed.Got to town yesterday on the bus,and stocked up on bird stuff..and something for us too,of course.
It was a beautiful sunny day.Still can't get the car up our road,as we didn't even get our grit bin filled before the bad weather...not good...like a ski run now.:o((( and all elderly here,so us "young uns" (4 of us in 60's) going in pairs to Coop on Main road, for anything they need,as their families can't get here.
PLease,go away now,snow,enough is enough.!!

9 Jan, 2010

Loads more here again today (edge of lincs /rutland) pleased to say hubby has arrived home safe, its beautiful at the moment 2pm but no signs of thawing, forecast more later......

9 Jan, 2010

hi bloomer, icicles all over our roof too i went into town today first time out properly since new year, but didnt want to go out anyway had to get a few things, just managed to get car out ,ours is like a skating rink, im getting annoyed with council now ,once the main roads were clear they should start on the smaller streets but they have done none so hard for everyone to get out.good to hear you are helping each other in times of need, yes ive had enough now legs killing me with straining muscles trying not to slip lol
hi lincs
glad your hubby got home safe not looking so nice here now really, turning to mush and ice underneath it ,it tried to snow this morn for 5 mins no signs of it thawing here as yet though :o)

9 Jan, 2010

When I went to church this morning the snow & ice was beginning to thaw & in only the hour & half I was there the difference was clearly visible! We had quite thick cloud this morning but towards midday it did seem to thin a little & in the early afternoon I saw some patches of brightness where the sun nearly, but not quite, made it through. As darkness came down it all seemed dry with no sign of the forecast snow. Around 3pm we did have a brief snow shower but it only lasted 5 mins.

Now it's 9.30 in the evening & it's snowing. From what I can see through the kitchen window it's the fine, icy particle type, not the big heavy flakes. Like everyone else I, too, wish it would go away!

Here we seem to be a lot better off than in many of the places that GoYers write from. We haven't had more than a few inches though the temps have been at least as low as other people's. We've had night lows during this last week that have seldom been recorded in these parts.

10 Jan, 2010

hi balcony, yes we too have had record lows as you say,no more snow here today either as was predicted only the 5 mins you had , its now 10pm doesnt look like we will get any tonight hopefully --she says--but what do i know, i went to quite local farm today and got eggs & milk , lots of produce there in shop dont know what all fuss is about you dont have to shop at a_ _ a or t_ _ _ o , i say shop local & they will look after you and you know its fresh ,although saying that i know not everyones got a farm 15 mins away so sometimes difficult, hope you get rid of your snow soon & the temp start to rise (costing us a bomb in heating at the moment, and thats supposed to be going up next ) !!! if it doesnt run out first lol

10 Jan, 2010

You are quite right about the heating costing a bomb - just last week I put £30 into out gas meter. The first £10 went in just a couple of days & yet my wife & I are wrapped up in blankets. I have had to turn off most of the radiators so as to keep just a couple of rooms warm.

When we came back from Spain we found out thermometer was at 13ºC, the lowest it can go is 10ºC! It took several days of heating on 24h a day for it to reach just 15ºC. Most of the time it now manages to stay at 15ºC min though it does occasionally creep up to 18ºC if we keep the living room door closed. While I´m sitting at the computer I have to have sit inside a sleeping bag up to my waist & even then I feel my legs cold. My feet feel like blocks of ice! Yet the air temp here is now nearly 21ºC for the first time in a week!

When we get up to leave the room we feel the warm air but while we are sitting down we are freezing!

10 Jan, 2010

i know we have an outhouse off the kitchen door and if its left open all downstairs is freezing ,we are looking at hols now to get away , but came back from malta end of nov out of 10 days it rained 6 ,cant cope, cant win, got to emigrate lol, at least i dont have to sit in a sleeping bag i can imagine how cold it is for you i sit in kitchen on laptop & quite warm so not as bad as you , but its no joke.......roll on spring.
