ONE ARMED GRANDAD

just remembering an article on net in summer, when looking how to grow great tomato plants and ended upon some site where this man was telling a tale of how good his one armed grandads tomato plants were, and how people would come from miles to buy them,he said you could smell them before you got to his greenhouse and wafted down the street (by now i was definately hooked) he went on to say his grandad had a secret not many people knew, that you had to strip all the leaves off the plants, then i had to read another 10 mins of his grandads life story ,then back to the plants,he said to get a shop bought tomato and his grandads and cut them both open the difference was remarkable and also the skins, the shop bought was like thin plastic but grandads was like a thin film, the taste was delicious, shop bought was tasteless,,by now id been reading for about 15 mins and desperate for secret ,he then said there are 3 vital leaves you must leave on the plants as they only need these 3 as all the other leaves take the goodness from the fruit,i then read another long story about his grandad, now back to the secret, well at the end it said to send 20 dollars to find out which were the vital 3 leaves you had to keep on the plants, ever feel as if you,ve been had. one armed grandad my -—foot.

My dad used to cut most of the leaves off his tomatoes. He used to leave a few of the top ones. He said they made the air damp in the night and that would rot the tomatoes. He gave them sulphate of amonia. I don't know why . He always had beautiful tomatoes.

19 Oct, 2009

thank you hywel i will definately try it next year i will look up about the sulphate on net ,cheers
