Jeans Garden and Allotment

Hi Everyone I’m back for another go !
With all the rain we have had haven’t had to do much watering but everything is now growing like mad including the weeds!
Yesterday we went to the allotment thats me Pete and Emma our youngest Grandaughter who is eight ,she has been staying with us over the weekend as my daughter Jo and grandaughter Rachel had gone to Norwich to swim in a competion ,she swims for a local towns group and was asked to swim for the region, as the youngest ten year old .She rang me last night sounding very tired but happy with her self as she had done so well and beaten her personal best .
Emma had been choosen as she’d be good, to bring her the" school " hamster home for the weekend , named Twiglet ,when the teacher rang to say was it alright? ,Jo said I shall have to ask my Mum as she doesn’t like small rodents infact i am frightened of mice and rats !!!,but I plucked up courage and held Twiglet ,which pleased Emma .
While we were at the allotment we picked baby carrots and broad beans and also some new potatoes with mint ,boy did they taste good ,nothing to beat them being so fresh ,I made some parsley (Which is growing in a pot in the garden ) sauce to go with the beans ,they were delicious .
The weather now is cooler but hopefully it will inprove as the week goes on ,
So I wish you all a happy healthy week ahead
Best Wishes
Jean

How lovely to have rain, we have had none here and the lawn is beginning to go patchy in places and I am watering by hand like mad. Glad you enjoyed the produce from the allotment nothing like home grown is there? Nice blog.

Well we needed the rain badly didn`t we Jean, though unfortunately the weeds like it too! I have to tell you that even though I`m not afraid of any rodents I wouldn`t have another hamster in the house after I was bitten by one years ago...it really hurt too! Well done to Rachel, I know you`re so proud of her. :o)

Hugs

Very interesting blog, Jeansusan! Glad to hear that your granddaughter did so well in her swimming contest! She must have been very, very happy to beat her own personal best! :-)

I was interested to read about you going down to your allotment as I went back down today after a week without going near it! I'm pleased to say I'm practically over my cold although my wife seems to have caught it from me! She returned to work today after a week's holiday. She began to complain yesterday of being hoarse, she's having the same symptoms I started with a week ago! :-(

After the rain we have had during the past week I wasn't too surprised to see how the weeds had grown! While I was off I found a new site dedicated to allotment growers & became a member. I've made a number of posts there already. Its called Allotment Growers UK : http://www.allotmentgrowers.co.uk/

I did a bit of weeding among the sweet peppers & the beetroots. Then I moved onto where the strawberry bed is/was/used to be as there was just one terrible mass of green with an occasional pink flower showing above it all! I spent about 1 & 1/2 hours just to free up a couple of feet of the bed! I knew it would be like the painting of the Forth Road Bridge when I cleared it a few weeks ago but after all the rain & cool weather they have come back at least 10 fold!
