Thankyou Jacque I was going to throw away all my dead petunia's but I shall be looking for those seeds before I do, whilst we were in Scotland I 'aquired' some lupin seed pods, when do you think I can sow those?

Hi Jacque
A lot of Petunias are F1 hybrids if thoes are they will not come true when they germinate, they may be good but equally could be rubbish,I mention this because if you rely on them 100% next year there may be dissapointment. This is equaly true of modern Pansys and many others.
Have fun but dont put all your seed in one basket.lol

I have already sown my Meconopsis .. Blue Poppy seeds and have dozens of little plants .. and have pricked 2 doz. out today .. it's so satisfying to get them from your own plants for free ... :o)

amy im having trouble even getting seeds,i leave them on plants till they dry out and dry them myself and still no seeds off my hollyhock, :o( but my free seeds out of Am mag im germinating them and i can already see seedlings after a few days :o)

Good luck ! I've never done this either because I keep dead heading them so no seed pods.

Are your holly hock seeds still on the plants Sandra , I remember they flowered later than mine .. they should be loaded with seed by now .. don't take them off until they are dry and brown .then pick the heads off open them spread the seed out to make sure they are dry .. .. keep them in a dry brown paper bag or a glass jar until the spring .. then set them ...
Hywel be patient .. save a few of your favourites .. :o)

I'll have to leave some on the plants to go to seed . I usually take them all off.

Think you can plant lupin seeds now as if you do them next spring they wont flower till 2011, so do them now and get lupins next year.Good luck with your petunia seeds Jacque.

amy i did leave them till brown but cant see any seeds inside them, but still alot on the plant so just keep looking,

Okay I did that but I also remembered to mark where they were too hehe

The seeds are very thin Sandra , almost like little sheets of paper stuck together .. hopeully you will come across some on the rest of the plants :o)
