My first cataloge for charity Xmas cards comes in mid August <sigh>. I always put it to one side until the end of October.
I also recall seeing Easter eggs in Woolworth in the second week of January

Lol! You are right Jacque - shops are so far ahead & the merchandise comes out so early now!! We do our Christmas bookings in June & they begin arriving in September. It has done me good to see all the shop hype, as it is now so obviously commercialised that I was forced to rethink holidays and get back on track. We should celebrate the ones we love - not with endless showers of gifts, but by giving of ourselves & our time - lenghty conversations, joint excursions, assitance in household or yard, or just being at their side in consolation or appreciation are worth so much, & in todays hectic world this has become easy to replace with a quick gift as we rush on with life. It is the old 'stop & smell the roses' idea again, but as long as the eager buyers are there, the shops will continue to push, push, push.
Sorry to go on, I just hate seeing so much of humanity rushing past all the enjoyable bits of life - they miss too much & there is no second go-round...
For myself, conversation & a cup of coffee are my favourite gift to recieve, and 'phtttt!' to the shops and their early merchandise : D

Sadly Jacque its all very commercial these days think they might be clearing summer items cos we havent had one yet!
Grammazoo expressed it beautifully and her sentiments seem to ring true the older we get. When my son was very young he loved that song by Queen - I want it all (and I want it now) sadly many of us live our lives by that .

I have a cousin who buys all her Christmas presents in January sales. lol. I think she's mad. If I did that I'd forget where I'd put them by next year.
Anyway I think each holiday should be kept to it's season. It becomes meaningless when it's so commercialised.
I make it a point not to go into Wyevale G. Centre after the end of August. I remember going in to the one near here in the first week of Sep one year. It was a hot day, not a cloud in the sky, temp about mid 20s. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. THERE in front of me was a 10 ft tall Christmas tree all decorated with silver bobbles and tinsell, and "Santa Clause Is Coming To Town" being played loudly on a microphone. I said to Beryl "What the H*ll. Let's get out of here " and we both left the shop. They only want to make money and they care about nothing. It makes me annoyed.
And then on Boxing day, which is still Christmas time they tear down all the decs and put "Sale" signs everywhere.

OMG Blodyn that brought back memories - some years ago had a holiday in US / Canada truly great time had forgotten the one blight on trip was driving past Santa land .A huge theme park dedicated to christmas all year round you can visit santa any day of the year! It was in Vermont I think near Mount Washinton perhaps our US goy members will know more - the amazing thing is its set amongst the most stunning scenery New England in the fall .

LOL That reminds me of when I was a social worker and visited a man in his house. He took me into the lounge where there were china Father Christmases everywhere. They were in a cabinet, on the mantle piece, on the table and windowsill, just everywhere; and they were there all year round. Some were Royal Doulton and must have been valuable. He said he loved them. lol
