Certain forms of rust on plants can cause pustules - any chance of a photo of an affected leaf? Are the blisters on both sides of the leaf or just on the top, and are there any insects under the leaf? Is it possible you've splashed water on the leaves in bright sunlight?

Souvenir du Docteur Jamain is an old rose - very dark red flowers and a good scent that likes shade. Unfortunately it is not a strong grower but if space is limited, it may be an option

I had a Mm Alfred Carriere on a north wall and it grew OK. You will always have less flowers in this position. Other roses include A Shropshire Lad, Golden Showers, Mme Gregoire Staechelin, New Dawn(my fav) and Veilchenblau. Just make sure it gets plenty of food and water and prune properly as it will try to grow up to the light and may get bare at the bottom
