who stole my summer

Posted on 26 Jun, 2008 12 comments

i demand to know who stole the summer from me lol,,,,,,, two weeks of glorious sunshine, everything growing great in the garden, plants needing to be watered each night and then bang its gone. started raining last week along with gale force winds, been like that since then apart from the one nice day last friday. this morning it is lashing rain, bouncing off the ground.
i want the sunshine back, even if its just back long enough to get the grass cut.
most of my plants now just look weather beaten, heads on the flowers all hanging down, im just hoping its not a repeat of last summer.

I hope that wasn't the summer, Irish, I want more sunshine too! There is always so much to get on with in the garden, isn't there.

Irish your not on your own, the weather here is just the same. I dont know about globle warming but i wish they'd let us have some of it, the only thing that looks good is the grass, its really green, but like you can't get to cut it.

Well the rain's kept away from here until now although it has been cloudy and dull, but now it's starting to pour down. Blodyn and I are in my little conservatory with a mug of Ovaltine for comfort LOL. I'll not be able to plant my new arrivals today I don't think. : (
Hope it's eased off with you now Irish !

Here in Portland, Michigan USA we have summer in SPADES. Today in the 80's and humid. Great for the gardens, not so great for the gardeners. (Don't do humidity well, especially working in the garden! I'm a mess). The last several days have been perfect, in the 70's, not humid. So I can't complain altogether. I've always said I'll be the first to start complaining when the humidity sets in and here I am doing it! We actually could use some rain, we get little dribs and drabs here and there, but ready for a good all day soaker. I've often marveled at the images I see of women in their straw hats and long dresses, looking fresh as daisies while working in their garden...not me and my garden. My husband told me on the last humid day we worked in the yard "Honey you look like a little kid with a load in your pants". That should give you all a clue what a "lovely" I am in the garden...but I love it just the same.

I too could use some of the rain here in Greensboro, North Carolina too. Last summer we were in a terrible drought and it has the tell tale signs of another one this year. Oddly enough some of the towns around me have had rain but it seems to miss my garden somehow.
I can empathize with you 1198 about how we look while we are doing our garden chores (I also do not do humidity well). Although, I do wear a straw hat, but do not look as glorious as those pictures you spoke of.

Cheer up ladies -you really think those pictures of gardeners?
Models who would scream at dirt under fingernails about as useful in a garden as I would be on a catwalk! More power to you.
