How time flies !

I’ve just realised it’s ten years since I first joined Grows on You ! :O

It was 22nd April 2008, and I joined with the user name ‘Blodyn’ … who was a cat I had back then.
I later re-joined using my own name in 2009, but all together it has been 10 years.

Most of the members that were here before me in 2008, have disappeared. Others have come and gone, or come and stayed.
I am still here and have made several good friends along the way :o) xxx

I joined because I wanted to find out the name of a plant that grew in our garden at home when I was little.
It had disappeared from the garden (both my parents being non gardeners)
and I never saw it again, but I always wondered what it’s name was so that I could get one for my own garden.

I had an answer to my question – it was called Sanguisorba :)
So I found one in an on line nursery and send for it.
It’s got fluffy pink flowers :-

That one is Sanguisorba hakusanensis.
I also sent for a white one and that’s called Sanguisorba tenuifolia alba :-

I wonder if I’ll be here for another ten years …

I joined March 2010, how time flies, i was searching for beautiful garden photos ?

I looked these up and a Telegraph article states that they are "easy, undemanding and promiscuous" ! Sounds as if you will have a LOT, Hywel.

I can't recall when I joined GOY. Ive learnt a lot from you lovely people and become a lot more interested in the garden as a result.

I joined the year after you Hywel and must say have enjoyed your blogs and learned a lot from you especially about fuchsias you gave me the confidence to grow one or two outdoors which I hadn`t done before.

Thank you Callie and Daylily :)

Thank you Eirlys, you joined on 14 October 2012 ... move the little arrow over your avatar and it will tell you :)

Sanguisorba is a tough plant and can get quite big but I haven't had them spreading in my garden.

I'm pleased to have inspired you Stroller. Thanks for your comment :)

Gosh 10 years. You were one of the first of many lovely people to send me some plants. I hope you stay for another 10+ years.
I joined in Feb 2009 and like you I have made many friends and miss some that left for a range of reasons.

In answer to your question, 'You better had be Hywel!'

The years do fly by though don't they?

1 May, 2018

I'm a relative newcomer - Feb 2011 was when I joined and I can't remember how I came across it. Looking back, I asked so many questions that first year and had so many helpful replies. It should come with a government health warning because its so addictive! Ive learned a lot and am very grateful to all of you. Its sad that so many of the lovely people around then appear to be with us no more. Who remembers the popularity of Shirleytulip's plum cake?

Those are special trees. I'm glad you found them and they seem happy in your garden.

Lovely plants Hywel as always your garden is lovely I joined in 2012 and the forum is still helpful friendly and enjoyable ?

Lol.. Here's to our 10th Anniversary year, and looking forward to many more..cheers ! xx

Hi I know Hywel, its unbelievable. You kindly shared a piece of your Sanguisorba pink with me, it’s coming up again this year.
I found the site by asking a question and AndrewR replied.
TerraT was very friendly and welcoming and the rest is history, I joined October 2018.
Any idea what year the site started?

They are gorgeous I can see why you searched for them Hywel .

I remember well when you were Blodyn then changed to Hywel ☺ x

Remember the fun we had Hywel with this when I set MadPerth Marie a challange

Thanks for all your comments ...

I believe the site started in 2007 Dawn. The first photo was posted in Jan of that year ... I just had a look back to the first page lol

We had a lot of lovely blogs along the way Thruppennybit, some were very funny.
You've had a change of name too. I remember when you were Morgana :) x

Sandra yes I have also had and sent many plants. I can't remember them all. I should have kept a record. x

I've even met a few members - Amy, Sandra (Corside Pembrokeshire) and Arlene.

Many pets I also remember ... makes me sad so I won't talk about those.

Happy memories tinged with sadness when someone just disappears and we never hear why. I can't remember when I first joined as Plantaholic but I left because there was so much acrimony which I felt was totally unnecessary and in some cases very cruel and definitely uncalled for. However I rejoined because along the way I had made some good friends, although most I am unlikely to meet in person. I am pleased that the clear out which happened at the time I left has meant an end to the nastiness and has blossomed in to the good website it is today, friendly support for members whether it is a gardening, a personal, a computer or pet problem. The Sanguisorba you sent to me is flourishing.

We certainly did Hywel some from Terratoonies blogs to ?

A few that left still email me occationally .

2 May, 2018

You're right Scotsgran, I don't miss all the former members, but there were some very friendly ones and I wonder why they don't look in sometimes.

2 May, 2018

Yes that's right Thruppenybit :D I remember them :) x

2 May, 2018

? So please you still remember Terratoonies Hywel. ☺ x

2 May, 2018

As I recall Scotsgran some went to GoY sister site ispyabird.

2 May, 2018

I think that is now closed, 3d.

Happy 10 yrs to you Hywel. I joined 2 years ago this month with a question on how to kill Horsetail :-(. Not looked back since. Asked so many questions and learnt so much! This site has been a god send but it's the people on it that make it so. Joined Facebook recently to start up a company page and I hate it, so many "trolls" and so rude that I don't go on any of the group's on there. Even in just my two years, I have seen members come and go. Seeing your and Steragrams blogs on Fuchsia made me want to try again at growing them and with both of your help, I got one through the winter for the 1st time ever. Here's to another 10 yrs ???

2007 Hywel, it built up quickly didn’t it. So many nice people on here that I consider close friends. Arlene was lovely.

2 May, 2018

Yes I heard it had Scotsgran but recently found this.

I often wondered what happened to Arlene.

2 May, 2018

Thank you 3d. I found it.

☺ Your welcome Scotsgran

Congratulations Hywel, and what an interesting blog! I’ve discovered I’m almost twinned with Sandra (Bloomer) as I also joined in October 2008 . . . can’t remember why, but I’m very glad I did.

I’ve met Stickitoffee, who has left, and a lady in Somerset who is very knowledgeable but I can’t think of her name! (Also in touch with Klahanie who left last year.)

Great you have been able to celebrate your 10th anniversary of having joined Grows On You, Hywel! I'm only a year behind you then!

I've also given & received plants for some of you lovely people on GoY! I still have some Geraniums from a couple of cutting a member sent me from Scotland! Shame he's not around any longer! I sent him an Amaryllis which he had never grown before.

I can't remember very well why I joined only that I think I was looking for info on some plant when one of the results directed me here & after "hanging around in the wings" for a while eventually joined. ?

Here's to another decade for us all! ???

6 May, 2018

Gosh this blog has brought back so many memories, I joined October 2008 with a question about the apple tree which we finally had to remove last year, I had been hovering in the wings so to speak for months before I dared pluck up courage to ask, the rest is history, there isn't another like Goy, plenty of chatroom type sites and I do belong to a few now but this one is my gardening diary, I don't write as many blogs admittedly but then I don't have many changes happening in the garden now so it would all be a repeat...Hywel you were one of the first friends I made on here and long may that continue..

8 May, 2018

Well I'm obviously a newish member compared to many of you. Years roll by so quickly.

I know what you mean about "disappearing"! Yesterday I heard that a penfriend I had been corresponding with for a very long time had suffered a massive stroke and died. I had met him and his wife and enjoyed reading his chatty email. His daughter phoned me to give me the news and his son wrote a lovely email today.

I mention this because I have left instructions to the Offspring to let "people" know when my time comes!

Love these fluffy blooms. I think a bit too big for my garden though. I have enjoyed this blog & all the comments.
