A Walk (or a Push) around the Lake ... :o)

In the beautiful upper reaches of the Tawe Valley is Craig y Nos country park,
and since it’s near where we live, we went there for an afternoon recently.

Craig y Nos means ‘Rock of the Night’

There’s a pretty lake in the grounds, and they’ve made the path around it suitable for wheelchairs,
so I pushed Beryl along it.

It was a lovely afternoon and I took some photos of the lake from various angles …

Here’s my chocolate icecream cornet …
just before it fell upside down on the grass :D lol !

Of course Beryl laughed … (and so did I !)

Well it couldn’t be wasted so I picked it up, scraped the bits of grass off, and eat it :o))

Here is Craig y Nos ‘Castle’
which was the home of the internationally acclaimed singer Adelina Patti :-

Thank you for coming with us to Craig y Nos. I hope you’ve enjoyed it :o)

How lovely! The photos are beautiful, and it looks like you had excellent weather. Good for you eating the ice cream. Of course it couldn't be wasted!

What a super place. I'm so glad you and Beryl had a nice day, I'm not sure I could have eaten the ice cream after it had landed on the grass. Why didn't you share with Beryl? I'm sure she wouldn't have minded after you gave her such a lovely day. ☺

That looks a smashing place Hywel and your photographs are really good, I like to see reflections in the water..
Pleased to see you and Beryl are getting out and about again, lets hope the weather supplies more days like that because even if its only a little jaunt it still does one a power of good, just wish it would stay warm a bit longer of an evening....

That is a wonderful place ! so lovely for you and Berly to enjoy being out and about together and it could not be any better than Craig yr Nos and Hywel glad you used what my grandkids called the 10 second rule if something ended up on the floor that they were really enjoying :-))

What a lovely area you live in Hywel. It must be a joy for Beryl to have you take her to areas like this. Its good to hear you had a good day, in spite of the ice cream. Do you know why the place has that name? It seems a strange thing to call it doesn't it?

Thank you all for reading my blog ...

Beryl had her own icecream Waddy - Strawberry flavour :)

I don't know why it's called that Steragram. It is very rocky around there - lots of limestone crags and rugged terrain.

I read up on it, supposedly the most haunted castle in Wales and has a fascinating history..

Beautiful pictures and unless you waited a long time to take a picture when no-one was about - not too crowded. You can't beat mountains and lakes for beautiful, peaceful views. As for the house/castle, what a mixture - turrets with crenellations, round tower, what looks like the end of a Dutch house and a clock tower! Some-one went to town on that one! But impressive of course.

What happened about the windmills you were so upset about near your house Hywel ?

10 Jun, 2015

Thank you all for your comments.

It has an interesting story attached to it Sue (Linc) :)

Different parts of it were built at different times Honeysuckle.
I think I've heard somewhere that it was originally a farm house, but someone turned it into a 'castle'.
The 'old' looking bit on the right was built in the early 1800s,
and then after Adelina Patti bought it, the rest was added on in the 1870s.
I'll have to try and find the booklet I've got on it.

Nothing happened about the windmills Diane. They are still there. They're not so bad really. They just look a bit silly.

Very nice....
Ha ha.the ice cream incident reminds me of my old dad back when I was a kid.we were on holiday and he saw the soft Whippy ice cream and said he hadn't had one in years so bought one.....he took one lick and the whole lot fell off the cone, onto his sandalled foot!!!! We laughed about it for some years!!!

What a lovely place, Hywel. I like all the reflections in the water you've captured and the castle but most of all I like that ice cream - it is a real failing of mine - I cannot pass an ice cream seller! Glad you didn't waste it :)

Loved the views of Craig y Nos. Wish I'd known it was there before we moved away from the area. We drove through the Beacons several times and it's such a beautiful area. I wouldn't want to be there in winter though.

Thank you for showing us.

I'm on the edge of it all year round lol
It's as nice in winter as it is in summer ...
or as bad in summer as it is in winter ! ;)
