Snowdrops and Views

There have been lots of wild Snowdrops again this year. They’re a common sight around here every spring :o)
They always seem to come out before the garden ones.

Over the past few weeks I’ve taken many photos of them, and thought I would share some with you in a blog,
and I’ve included some views of the places where I took their photos too.

Near a place called Penybanc there’s a stream, with swathes of them growing along it …

And near Trap, they are all along the hedgerows …

At Carreg Cennen, near here, there’s an old castle …
and here it is in the background with snowdrops in a field …

Some more views of the castle …

More Snowdrops …

Here are some views of the river Tywi at Dryslwyn, where Snowdrops are abundant …

The ground isn’t so hilly here, and the snowdrops seem to come out earlier … They started in January here :o)

Some views near Llandeilo.
Snowdrops line the lanes all around here …

And yet more Snowdrops :o)

I always try to make the most of seeing the Snowdrops. They seem to finish too soon.

Yes there is some pretty scenery around here. It's a pitty I take it for granted sometimes lol

Homebird we did have a dusting of snow this morning, although it wasn't forecast. I'm glad to say it has cleared now. It's bitterly cold though.

Thank you :o)

Lovely blog Hywel, certainly up to standard! I remember seeing the wild snowdrops down your way years ago when I used to visit the area with work. It makes mine look rather pathetic, altho they are growing each year.
I am longing for some warmer weather; at least I can play in the greenhouse sometimes. Our English and Scottish friends are suffering a lot more, I fear..

You have a bard's passion for nature and an eagle's eye for detail, Hywel.
Superb!

Lovely photos, Hywel! The views are beautiful and the snowdrops are so lovely. Isn't it wonderful to see them thriving in the wild?

13 Mar, 2013

Thank you all for reading my blog.

Nice to see you again Rachelsmum :o)
I wish it would get warmer too. Cold weather makes me feel depressed. I even preffer rain to this.

Hi Mouldy. Welcome to GoY :o)
Thanks for your comment ...

Thank you Melchisedec. I always think snowdrops look prettier in the hedgerows than in a garden :o)

I think that I and doggie would enjoy a walk around your area...
Lovely, lovely pics.

Carreg Cennen : Always loved this place. Remember crawling along a narrow tunnel to the underground well. Walked from near Sennybridge and viewed Llyn-y-Fan fawr and Fach that day. Miss the views of the Brecon Beacons from my family home.

The images of the snowdrops are beautiful. Have you ever seen any "pink" ones? My old neighbour used to have some and a few "escaped". Don't know why they referred to them as "pink": I always thought they looked grubby; much prefer the white ones.

16 Mar, 2013

Thank you Eirlys.
I've never heard of pink snowdrops. I'd like to see some.

16 Mar, 2013

Haven't seen any around for years.

I can tell you how to "create" a pink snowdrop, Hywel. Place a cut bunch in water tinged with red ink. I recall being shown this experiment at my primaryschool. It's a good way of showing capillary action.

17 Mar, 2013

That's interesting :o)

I don't know how I missed this blog of yours, Hywel? Anyway you have some marvellous drifts of Snowdrops in Wales! I've seen lots growing wild around here but nothing I know of can compete with some of those drifts!

I got some for my balcony this year. A lady from the allotments field gave me some double ones. They flowered for a couple of weeks & now I hope they will come back next year.

12 May, 2013

Thank you. I hope your double snowdrops come back next year. I planted some a few years ago, but they haven't flowered yet .... just leaves.

14 May, 2013

I hope they will come back again as well! They are looking very healthy at present! As does the Hellebore from the same lady which I put in the same pot. :-))
