I went for a medical appointment this morning, and while I was waiting for my turn to go in I noticed a little boy with his father also waiting. He must have been about 5 or 6 yrs old.

I think the little boy got fed up – well it was a long time. And in the end his father said to him " you can come and help me in the garden after we get home"

The little boy’s eyes lit up and he started talking to his father about planting something in a tub, and some frezia bulbs. His father talked back to him about it.
Then he pretended to be sewing seeds on the ground (in the doctor’s surgery lol)

Then he said to his father “will I be able to have a cup of tea aswell” lol and I thought he’s like me – - I always take a cuppa down the garden too :o)

It was nice to hear the man encouraging his little son to get interested in the garden.

Brilliant - I wish I had a willing helper - mine into films and dvd's just now, no chance of any gardening being done lol. Maybe girls are like that, but I know that when they grow up they get interested in gardening, especially when they have to look after their own plots. lol. Maybe I will get willing helpers when grandkids arrive (WHEN)!!

Sorry to hear you are not well Hywel hope it all goes soon of you having to visit the doctor, its not nice being not well.

What a lovely story Hywel is nt it lovely when fathers incourage their little ones, must of been lovely to watch and listen to it.

Tea has healing properties and green tea put oxygen into the blood and properties in green tea is used in cancer treatment.

I had my 4 grand children plant seeds and told them to take them home and how they will look after them is how they would look after their babies when they have them, my two grand sons came over yesterday tea time when I returned from shopping to show me how their seeds have surfaced and growing they were delighted their little faces were a sight to see.

hope you didn't go to the dr for anything serious, glad you told us about the little boy, his father is encouraging him the right way, and he wanted a cup of tea, how sweet, different to our little grandson who was helping my husband in the garden at 9.30 my OH said should we stop for a drink now and our grandson shouted through the kitchen window, Grandma coffee for grandad, Beer for me. I dread to think what the neighbours would say if they had heard him,

That is the most beautiful story! I can just see it all being played out in the GP surgery. That boy is a gardener of the future for sure...to be so excited about gardening in February! :))

How sweet, bless him. Our grandson loves the garden and I always encourage him to plant bulbs etc. He loves digging and we re-planted the strawberry plants last week, they now have twelve. You have to start them young, my two are not really interested, not sure why!
Lovely story Hywel.

Hope you are OK, Hywel. Loved the story - I think lots of children enjoy getting their hands dirty and seeing the results of their labours, then it wears off a bit for many as they begin to grow up :) It will always be a good basis for them though.

haha nice - also good to hear the boy was interested - :):)

What a good boy and daddy they sound. Hope daddy makes the most of this time- they seem to grow up so quickly. Boring waiting around the surgery, he was very well behaved!
Keep taking
the tablets, Hywel! A lovely little story.

Lovely story, like you Hywel i've always got a cup of tea with me in garden.

Ah!!!! thats a lovely story Hywel and good that you had something nice to listen to whilst you waited, nothing worse than sitting in a waiting room with everyone avoiding either speaking or looking at one another..
Lets hope the lad continues to enjoy both his gardening and a cuppa..
Unfortunately my grandchildren only liked the garden when they were little and could dig big holes to play in, hopefully they might change when they are older..

What a lovely story Hywel, it is heartwarming to hear of small children becoming interested in growing, they are the gardeners of the future. :o)

a very sweet story Hywel...

Great story Hywel. My dad started me gardening at an early age and he continued to be my gardening chum. He would have loved GOY. Keep well.

So nice to hear that not all young children are only interested in computer games and tv! My son always loved working in the garden with me- got so excited when his seeds came up! Hope you are now feeling better!

Thank you all for your comments. It was nice to read about your children and grand children too :o)

Thanks for all good wishes. I am well again now x

Hi Hywel.....glad to hear you are OK and I DID enjoy that story of the wee kid....let us hope he keeps up his interest....we need the young to be encouraged these days - as the outside world seems to be alien to them - they are all so hooked on their computerised games.
I think it is far healthier to be out and about - so -long may he enjoy sowing his seeds with his grandpa!

Glad to hear you are now well again, Hywel. :-))

My dad tried to encourage my brothers & me to take up an interest in gardening but I was the only one it "Grew on"! :-)) I also tried to interest mine but it didn't wash off on them! :-(( Except now my daughter has her own house & garden & for the last 3 or 4 years has become much more interested in growing her own plants & has even had a go at vegetables! Last year she gave me 6 tomato plants she had grown herself for my birthday!

Our granddaughter likes to "help" me by watering (drowning more like) my plants on the balcony. She also likes to pick the strawberries & tomatoes I grow on the balcony!

Lovely story Hywel, my grandaughters grew sunflowers last year and Liz (my daughterinlaw) goes to a gardening club and takes the youngest with her, I got Rian a 'paint your own gnome' one year and he still sits in one of my pots been out there all winter he's still smiling :), if encouraged children love to 'help'

Great story, very encouraging - if I mentioned sowing seeds to my sons when they were small, they'd have legged it immediately - if it didn't involve a keyboard or a joystick, they weren't interested, sadly.

That is a lovely story and nice to hear our youth showing an interest. My twelve year old likes to get her hands dirty in the garden but she only likes it when its warm... very clever ;0

An "armchair gardener" then! LOL! :-D

Great story again Hywel. You do keep us interested with your observations on life. What a special relationship those two have, long may it continue and lets hope it is catching for other local families.
