Late October in my garden.

Apologies for being absent for quite a while. Life got in the way as it does.
T and I managed a few days away last week and after the cold, wet, windy weather we have had, I expected the garden to be devoid of flowers and the only colour being green and brown when we got home…. It was so nice to see a few plants hanging on to their flowers and leaves.
The first things to grab my attention, as we pulled onto our drive, were the brilliant yellow Chrysanths that seem to be in tight bud for weeks.
They were very small plugs I bought last year and I can’t believe how big they have grown.

Round into the back garden and I was surprised to find all these plants hanging onto a few flowers and colourful leaves…

Then into the conservatory..

I don’t know how much longer these will last but I am certainly enjoying it for now. I hope you all have as much, if not more colour in your gardens. I am off to try and catch up with your photos and blogs now. xx

Beautiful Homebird. I still have a few things in flower but not a leaf in sight on any of my Acers. Yours still looks great and so does the rest of your garden.

It's always a pleasure to come home and find plenty of colour still in the garden - does you good, doesn't it? :)

Thanks TS and Sheila. It really does do us good. ?

What a joy for you , HB . They are all looking good !
I still have lots out at the moment , the cosmos , which decided to flower just at the beginning of October , is in full swing and looking amazing , but today's weather may see everything off !
Things have been so slow , my chrysanthemums managed to put out a few sad blooms , but yours are especially wonderful , aren't they ?
What has surprised me is the morning glory , again out for about a month now ; but today there are 20 flowers , never had so many in one go .

Thanks very much Driad. I forgot to sow Cosmos this year but I found a few self sown that didn't flower very well. I love the flowers ad the ferney folliage. The Chrysanths have really surprised me because they have grown so well. I'm hoping they will survive the winter and I can split them and plant a few in the back garden next year. I'd love to grow Morning Glory. Yours sound as if they have enjoyed where you put them and enjoyed this autumns weather too. My goodness.... 20 flowers all at once. I bet they look brilliant. Wouldn't it be great if the weather didn't turn really cold until Christmas...?

They have really surprised me Sbg. I never expected them to grow so big or to have so many flower heads. Thankyou. :o)

Great colour HB and loads of plants still flowering. I was startled and envious of your Lemon Tree. Mine has grown well, but hardly flowered at all this year. Hopefully now its permanently in the greenhouse it will fare better. The other thing that really stopped me in my tracks was the pink and gold Orchid which is a showstopper! And those Chocolate Cosmos are stunning too. :)

Thanks for your lovely comments Karen. The lemon was a real bargain from the well known German supermarket early last year. I put it outside after the last frost and brought it back into the conservatory last week. The extra warmth made it produce another load of flowers. The scent is beautiful. I shall switch to the winter feed this week. I think, if you have your frost heater running through winter, yours will keep some leaves on and as soon as it warms up in spring it will burst out in flower. My little one does.
I love my Phalenopsis and was so relieved they didn't die when the leaves were scorched earlier this year when we had those two very hot and sunny days.

Oh wow, HB., your garden still looks so colourful it's difficult to believe it's Autumn.

( I might have got this wrong, but did you ever wonder about artificial lawn for your hill?)

Wow, what a lovely lot of colour you still have. We had our 1st frost this morning and the last of my summer bedding plants have gone to mush. Loved looking at your blog for getting ideas for my plan to get some more colour into this garden.

Thanks so much Eirlys and Jen for your lovely comments. We expected a frost this morning but even though it was very cold there wasn't any frost to see in the garden when I got up about 5.30.
I did wonder about artificial grass for the slopes but T said it wasn't practical and while ever he can mow the grass he would rather have the lawns. We've bought a smaller, lighter mower for them and the small front garden recently and kept the larger one for the top garden and flat lawn. So much easier. ?

Some beauties you still have going there Homebird and what great colours to. Love those Orchids.

How lovely to come home to so much colour. Everything is continuing to flower later this year. We had a slight frost this morning, but not enough to blacken any plants. Cosmos, lobelia & nasturtiums still going strong. Love your garden, great plants.

Thankyou 3d and Ff. No frost here yet. We can't believe it's not pouring with rain as it usually does here just before bonfire night. We just had a spot or two last night that didn't really wet anything.
