A few new plants.

T and I had a run to the garden centre today to buy something for T’s Mother who is 90 tomorow. Daffodils are her favourite flower and we wanted to buy her a nice flower arrangement. T chose a pot with daffodils, a purple pansy and a yellow primrose in.
Close by I found a 6 pack of tete a tete daffs just opening, some very pretty primula Zebra Blue and some single flowered snow drops I couldn’t resist. Somehow, two pots of English bluebells, a pot of double flowered snowdrops and a pot of variegated ivy joined them.!!
Oh! And a Christmasy cake plate. Well there was 70% off….:o))

When we got home from the GC (after partaking of a very nice cooked breakfast in their cafe) I set about planting them in the garden and suddenly thought about the lovely old basket T’s mum had given to me and thought it would look nice planted up with some of the plants we had just bought. The basket had been bought for her by her Father- in- law when she was in her early twenties and had been special to her. I lined it well with a thick black plastic bag and planted it up with three pots of the tete a tete, three pots of the Zebra primrose, the pot of single snowdrops and the ivy split into two pieces.
This is the pot T bought….

This is the basket I’ve planted up….

I do hope she likes it and doesn’t mind me using the basket in this way. I shall tell her that the plants can go into her garden when they’ve finished and she can let me have the basket back again. (Please) lol

The rest of the plants are planted out in the garden. I’ve put some in the blue pots by the pond ( they were looking very bare because the spring bulbs are only just pushing through in them. I put the Galanthus Flore Pleno into the border where the crab apple tree is. I didn’t want to put them with the old single flowered ones in the lawn.
The English Bluebells, I’ve planted beneath the shrubs in the top garden border. Bulbs of these I bought a few years ago never came up. Hopefully these in the green will fare better. I didn’t take a photo of them, hopefully in a few months there will be flowers to photograph…;o)

I had just finished planting when the first of our family members arrived. We are all getting together to celebrate her birthday tomorrow. I’m hoping it will be a nice surprise for her. We are taking her out for a special lunch and then all coming back to our house for a tea party. It’ll be rowdy here as usual when the grandchildren get together but she’s a bit deaf and doesn’t seem to notice all the noise much….lol

I love all Spring flowers Homebird and you have given me an idea as I have a couple of baskets I don't use now! I used to hang all of them up on the beams when we lived in the Cottage and they are just hung up in the garage !
Happy Birthday to your Mum in law !

That basket was a real brainwave, it looks lovely! I think she'll be pleased as punch with everything. 90 eh? We have a 90 year old neighbour as well. She is the wife of the late farmer across the road. She is tiny, riddled with arthritis, but still goes out with her friends and lives by herself in her own home.

What you have done today is really special and the flowers in the basket would cheer anybody up and make them smile!

Hope you all enjoy the birthday celebrations tomorrow and that your mum-in-law has a very happy day.

We had a super day today with M-in-Law. The lunch out was really enjoyed by all. The present giving when we came back home and the blowing out of all the candles on the birthday cake by her and the grandchildren in turn, took ages. It nearly baked the cake melted some of the
She was thrilled with the basket telling everyone how special the basket was to her. I'm so glad it was a really lovely day for her. She wants copies of all the photos we took during the day to send to her sister. :o)

Happy birthday to T's mother for tomorrow ! I hope she and all of you have a lovely time.
The basket is very pretty. I'm sure she'll enjoy it.

I hope your Bluebells survive :)

Reaching 90yrs of age and still being able to enjoy life, to me that sounds wonderful and a cause for celebration, her basket looks a real treat and will have brought her pleasure to see it all planted up. Your trip to the GC sounds a smashing way to while away a few hours and a meal as well, can't be bad, no washing up to do afterwards either, lol.
How dare those others jump into your basket, much too hard to resist.....

Lol Lincs. it's impossible to visit a GC and only buy one plant. I would have to wear blinkers.
We had a really lovely day. Thankyou. X

I hope you all had a lovely day, Hb. My mum will be 90 in August. She was telling me on the phone today that she'd enjoyed a two-hour gardening session on Thursday (not too strenuous, I hope). I expect we'll be organising a family get-together for her birthday.

I think the basket looks lovely planted up, and I bet she was delighted with it!
