Shelley and Gareth's renewal of their wedding vows.

It was my daughter and son in laws 10th wedding anniversary today and they had arranged to renew their wedding vows in their local church, Saint James Parish church and to celebrate it with about 40 close relations and friends. We had a beautiful day for it. Lovely sunshine, cool but dry, very similar to the weather on their wedding day. The Reverend Philip Ball was so welcoming and helpful with the planning. It felt very special.
The children were so happy. Samuel, he is 4, loved wearing his suit and tie with a button hole made by Shelley from the same kind of flowers she had had for the wedding. His job in church was to hand out the order of service and to make sure everyone had one. Bless him, he took his job VERY seriously…lol.

The service was lovely and my Mother was asked to read a Bible Reading.
Emily who is 6 now, read out something she had written called ‘Love’.

All the children were asked to light the Advent candles and Shelley and Gareth lit the wedding candle saved from their wedding.
After the service we all drove for a very nice meal in the next village. This is one of the 6 table decorations she put together.

Shelley and Gareth had brought T and I two tins of Salmon from their honeymoon in Canada and one of them had sat in the cupboard for the past ten years. As the 10th anniversary is ‘Tin’ we wrapped it up and gave it back to them. I think they will probably enjoy it tonight once the children are tucked up in bed….lol
We have all had a lovely day celebrating with them and it makes my heart swell to know how happy they are together. May their love for each other last forever.

Many congratulations to them both HB. My husband and I celebrate 40 years of marriage this Christmas Eve, so may I say I agree with every word of the poem written by Emily. I think there is a budding talent there. ☺

Thankyou Scotkat, Lincs, Siris and Waddy. I hope you all have a smashing day tomorrow, Christmas Day. I'm not going to get much sleep tonight, as usual for a Christmas Eve, I just can't wait for the little ones to be up and opening presents...lol. T says I'm worse than the children. Time seems to drag between my getting up and the first child waking up. 😄

Congratulations Waddy on your 40th anniversary. I hope you celebrated and had a lovely time today.. 😊

Thats a lovely heart warming story. It's nice to know that some of the younger generation still take marriage seriously so many now are not prepared to work hard at it and go there seperate ways for what are often trivial reasons, not always but often.
I was brought up in a home with almost victorian values and never heard the word divorce as a child if I did I new not what it meant, home was secure even though there was little money.
I suppose even as i reached my teens I was starting to break the mould and at 14 had my first love she was 13 much to my mothers disgust remember the words ''don't you bring any trouble home here'' well that trouble is still with me 63 years later 56 of them married.

Oh! Brian that is so touching. You found your soul mate so early in life and are still together. I agree with all you've said too. I hope you both have a wonderful Christmas and are very happy and healthy throughout the New Year. X

Thank you HB, yes we had a lovely day just the two of us having celebrated earlier in the year with friends and family before our trip to Venice.

Bjs, What a great story. Too many youngsters throw in the towel these days at the first sign of trouble. Congratulations to you both.

Lovely that you have shared this with us. A very special day to remember and what talent Emily has...a budding poet.

It was a lovely day Linda. It brought a tear to my eye I can tell you. Emily is at that age where she loves reading and writing stories and poetry.

Lovely I hope that she keeps them all. Later on she might want to expand what she has already written. I am always updating my poems. Four of my poems got used in churches this Christmas.

How lovely. That's brilliant Linda. I've read the poems on your web page.
It's so quiet here this morning, almost 8am and everyone is still fast asleep. The children were very late into bed last night. It was 10pm. They were all shattered. It will do them good to have a lie-in and I'm having a nice bit of me time. Lol...

It's a gift and hopefully Emily will continue with hers.

I think it's because Shelley and Gareth have read to them at bedtime since they were born. Emily is an avid reader and loves to read parts of stories to me that she finds funny or surprising. Samuel prefers to look through the Lego magazines..lol. I wish Matthew and Phoebe were more interested in books. They prefer playing on hand held gadgets. Christopher and Julie haven't really read to them much except to help them with homework. They like it though when I read the Melrose and Croc books to them. I like reading 'What the Ladybird heard' to them all. When I first read it to them they thought it was hilarious and still do....
