December 19th in the garden

I haven’t done anything in the garden for well over a month and as it was a nice dry day yesterday I gave myself a kick up the backside and mowed all the lawns at the back. The grass wasn’t dry of course but the mower managed to cut them until I got down to the last half of the larger slope lawn and it died on me. Grrrr…. I had to bring up the smaller mower we use for the front garden hoping it could cope with the rest of the longish grass. Thankfully it did. I had totally forgotten about the new mower T bought when the mower acted up earlier in the year.!!! I had visions of having to leave the lawn we can see from the lounge window looking like a half ploughed field….lol. The grass, hopefully, won’t grow too much now until the spring.

It was good to get out in the garden for a few hours, it was very mild, no hot aches in my fingers….👏
I noticed a few flowers hanging on and a few just opening.
These are the ones hanging on…..

These new flowers were a pleasant surprise…..

There’s not a lot, as you can see, but it’s lovely to find a few. The Clematis ‘Freckles’ and ‘Jingle Bells’ were a real surprise, I’m sure they haven’t flowered until well after Christmas before. The roses continue to produce a few flowers but the rain has spoiled a lot of them.
It’s great that the weather up to now has been so mild and is shortening the winter for us. (Fingers crossed) we even had to turn the heating off this morning, it was so mild.

Indoors, the Christmas cacti are flowering again, it’s only about 6 weeks since they were full of flowers. A very nice Christmas present for me from my plants…lol
The Phals continue to flower too. The pink one is out too.

The Calamondin has loads of fruit forming but the lemon tree has dropped a lot of fruit buds and looks like it will only give us 3 lemons this time. I have no idea why, nothing has changed as far as I remember. Perhaps it’s just having a rest.

That’s about it for now so in case I don’t get chance to speak to you all before Christmas I want to say…

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND I WISH YOU THE VERY BEST OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH ALL YOU COULD WANT FOR YOUURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY. XXXXXXX

Thankyou Tt and Stera. I'm just taking the opportunity to put my legs up and relax with a bit of catching up on the Goy blogs and photos before the family descend on us in an hour or so. Then the Christmas week will fly by in a whirl....

We are continually switching off our heating as well HB. I really wish I could grow those winter flowering clems...so pretty! They just don't flower well up here in the North. I'm guessing it must be because they need a bit more summer heat to ripen the wood for later blooms...but I don't know really. Still, I can enjoy seeing other Goyers'. Our grass is growing too, but it's far too whet to put a mower on at the moment. We had a very brief spell of sunshine today while I was out walking the dogs....it was so strange...it felt so much like spring, it really threw me! It didnt last...and its probably just as well because my lilac tree buds are swelling and I'm afraid if we don't get some winter soon everything will start growing again. Which would be great if winter never came, but its bound to arrive soon...surely?!

Mowing the lawn on the 19th December? Crazy isn't it HB? But at least the mild weather has helped to keep your aches and pains at bay. So much still to see in your garden, it's looking great. Let's hope we get away with a mild winter, followed by a spanking summer. That would be nice wouldn't it? Have a lovely Christmas and wonderful 2016.

So many flowers you have, very nice. OH managed to mow last week too. My plants arent too confused but I think they are welcoming the mild conditions not usually enjoyed here. It doesnt feel much like Christmas does it, but Happy Christmas to you.

On Christmas eve the temp is expected to reach 70 F in my little corner of the world. Instead of milk and cookies, Santa will find a Piña Colada and assorted melon waiting for him. Merry Christmas!

But don't forget the carrots for the reindeers.

Bloomer...Thankyou.

Thanks Wildrose.

Dawn it's certainly odd weather, I can't wear my Christmas jumper... 😄

Sandra...lol. it was too wet really to be mowing but I'd left it so long it was desperate for a short back and sides....

Waddy wouldn't it be great...😎

Karen..yes a lot of the plants and the birds as well are confused by the unexpected mild spell. I sincerely hope we don't have to pay for it later...

Thanks Shirley..

Thanks Siris, I can let the Christmas spirit engulf me now and enjoy playing with the little ones. Their excitement is infectious. 😄

HAPPY CHRISTMAS.🎄

A very merry Christmas to you and your family Sheila My hubby remarked this morning that the lawn needs mowing again it's so mild you have a lovely lot of flowers still blooming in your garden we have almost the same selection as you, our Freckles Clem.has been amazing this year xx

Thankyou Amy. I remember mowing the grass in November sometimes but I don't think I have had to do it this late in the year. This mild weather is shortening the winter for us hopefully and the summer did seem to start quite late didn't it. It's lovely that all the plants caught up though and did really well.
I hope you and your family have a very happy Christmas too. Father Christmas knows you've been a good girl...most of the time!!

Hard to believe it is a December 19th garden in your pictures Homebird. Looks to me like spring has arrived.
Enjoy the Christmas holiday with your family, and best wishes for 2016.

Happy Christmas Hb. Your garden is looking nice, I was surprised to see the Clematis too. I have some Hyacinths in bloom & also Spring snowflake.

21 Dec, 2015

Thankyou Derek. I hope you have an enjoyable time with your family and friends.

Thankyou Klahanie, some of the plants think it is spring....lol. I hope you enjoy Christmas too and have the best of health and happiness in the New Year.

Feverfew, Thankyou, I hope you have a lovely Christmas too with good friends and family.
Are your hyacinths in the garden or indoors? I found one flowering under the staging in the greenhouse last month. It was a very elongated flower due to being at the back of some other plants. Poor thing must have been desperately searching for the light....lol and sadly it had very little scent.
