Good Friday....April at last.....and spring has sprung.

It’s great to see so much coming up in the garden now isn’t it. We have been away for a few days and it was lovely to take a walk up the garden as soon as we got home and had had a cuppa. (My neibour says they take bets on how long I will be home before I am out in the garden….lol ) Well here’s what I found out there this afternoon.

Indoors again because it had started raining again, my Arum lily has 2 flowers well out. This plant is said to purify the air..

The cucumbers I set 8 days ago are forming their true leaves. All but one seed germinated.

This Phalenopsis has been in flower now since well before Christmas.

My cacti have come into flower again.

Out in the pond the water Hawthorne are flowering a little more now the water is warming up again. Ther are not enough out yet for us to get the lovely scent they give off later in the month.

…and finally…looking out at the rain soaked garden…

I’ve been very fortunate really that the awful strong cold winds we had earlier haven’t blown many of the Daffs over. What few did lay down I brought in and put them in a vase and they had a lovely scent. T was surprised how strong the scent was as he’s never smelled Daffs before!!
Thanks for letting me lead you up the garden path…and back down again…

Oh yes, you definitely have spring there! Here we are still quite wintry. Nothing much happening in the garden at all except a few daffs. Your garden looks gorgeous. No wonder you went straight out there!

Your water hawthorn looks lovely! Mines about 3 years old and it only has one leaf on it!

Looking great Homebird .

My crocus are nearly over but now the daffodills are in bloom its such a lovely time of the year so much happenning in the garden.

Thankyou Karen. You are still getting the wintry weather I see from the weather forcasts. Won't be long now though before your lovely garden has caught up with ours. The only good thing is, the colder temps are helping the daffs to keep going longer here.
Thankyou Dan. I have to pull quite a bit out every winter or it would fill the pond. It's easy to do though. The scent is so pleasant wafting through the conservatory windows when the weather warms up and a pleasure to catch the scent as you climb up the steps by the pond. I hope yours takes off this year and you get the full benefit of it's scent. We must have had ours in the pond about 10 years now. I've given loads away over the years. I just wish my water lilies did half as well.

Your garden looks lovely - and isn't the currant early? No sign of ours flowering yet. This is just the time of year for keeping walking round the plot and admiring everything isn't it?

Thankyou Scotcat, my crocus were over a week ago but haven't they been brilliant this year? It certainly makes you feel better seeing the lovely daffs and everything pushing up and raring to go.

It does your heart good to see the rapid growth now Stera. The currant is usually out in March. Thank goodness the gloom of winter is behind us. Everything to look forward to... :o))

What a lovely garden to come home to with beautiful signs of spring everywhere.

Here in Devon, it just needs to warm up, stop raining and let the sun come out again! Everything seems to be at a stand still, including me! I will wait until the temperature goes up a bit before I put my gardening gloves on!

Lovely garden Homebird I too rescued daffodils flattened by the wind they're brightening my kitchen windowsill :-)
Love your huge clump of hellebores and the water hawthorn not something I've grown in the pond, looking at mine looks like I'll be pulling water soldiers out by the barrow load before long!!!!

Haha my waterliilies usually do well! I think that's half the problem, the Lily's growing and taking up all the space! The hawthorns do smell lovely when they flower.

I've just built a little wildlife pond and think it's too small for water lilies but have seen the hawthorn and was wondering about them. Anyone got any pointers?

Thankyou Widrose, I hope it warms up a bit soon. Steadily would be good. The soil is still too cold and very wet for seed sowing outside here. I wanted to sow my peas but the soil is so wet and cold I am sure they would rot so I've sown them in the greenhouse in pots. I got hot aches last week when I was cutting back some plants. Mind you, it's just rain now, no longer sleet and hailstones..
Thanks Kidsgran, it is lovely to se so much colour everywhere now.
Simbad, thank you. I don't have Water soldiers in the pond. I've forgotten what they look like. I will have to look them up. The Helebores were a seedlings gift from a Goy friend a few years ago and this year they have done incredibly well. It's a pity they like it best at the top end of the garden where I can't see them unless I go up there. Sods Law.

There are some small water lilies you can get Julie if you wanted water lilies. Is your pond shallow or only a small diameter? The Water Hawthorne is growing in about 18 inches depth of water.
You lucky thing Dan. I wish mine weren't as reticent. Lol

Such unseasonal weather, it's nice to see the colour in your garden, brightens up my spirits!

Hi Sheila, it might be raining again, but there's plenty of colour in your garden to make up for it, very nice, Derek.

Happy Easter. It's lovely warm sunshine today. It's brought out the first of the dwarf tulips. 😊

It looks lovely, Hb! We had a few days away and I found the forsythia out when I got back, as well as a few little tulips. We had good weather while we were away, but it's still been mostly cloudy here apart from the odd day. Mild though, and we've not had the bad weather this winter that so many people have had to put up with, so I guess we're lucky.
