My Cacti arrangement.

I have been wondering for ages what could I put in the wine glass shaped container that my Mum in Law bought for me a few years ago. I’ve tried ferns and all sorts of plants but none were happy in it. Last week while browsing around the garden centre I spotted some small cacti and I have wanted to grow cacti again but with the small grandchildren wanting to touch my plants I didn’t want to risk it. And then the penny dropped. How about growing them in the wine glass. The children can’t get to them but I can see them. So off we went this morning to the garden centre and chose these five.

T had some sharpe sand in the garage and I used it to part fill the glass. I used the bacon tongues to ease the cacti from their pots and to place them in the sand. Then we used a funnel to pour in enough sand to cover the rootball of each plant. I sprinkled some white sand that I had over the top and Hey..Presto it was complete. I think the glass will suit them and I think they look quite nice.

At long last the glass is being used and I can once again have cacti in the house. :o))

Thanks everyone. I will keep a close eye on them and remove them if they start to look distressed.

They could be potted on later on to a s/h fish tank. I have my Gerbils in the old fish tank, and they are most entertaining, in these miserable winter months. Like something different to do every day.

Diane we had a hamster in a fish tank many years ago and the children put the cardboard tube from aluminium foil in for it to play with. Trouble was, one of them leaned it up against the side of the tank and it used it to escape and disappeared under the floor boards. We never did find it.!!!

They look nice in the glass. They should last a long time in there :)

That's a super arrangement HB. What a clever idea to use the bacon tongues to handle them with. Hamster in a fish tank?...I dread to think what was in the hamster cage lol!

That looks great, Hb - a very attractive group!

Diane, love the idea of potting on your hamsters...

Ha ha. The Gerbils are like small children. I have to swop
their activity items over every day, as they get bored.
Always keep the lid on as it conserves warmth.

Ha, Ha...I insisted they could only have one if they kept it in something escape proof! So much for that idea.
