There was 4 inches of snow on the garden since Boxing Day and I woke up this morning to see none. It has almost completely thawed over night…..I can hardly believe my eyes. 😮
This was New Year’s Eve (yesterday)

And this is this morning….

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL AND MAY THIS YEAR BRING YOU GOOD HEALTH HAPPINESS AND A GARDEN FULL OF PLEASURE. XXX

Yes , best wishes from me as well...
Its the same here H'bird and like Dotty says very grey and damp, I've just had a wander around outside and the only snow in my garden is a patch near my g'house where it had piled up quite high, it was good to see some polyanthus in flower, now hoping the sparrows don't spot them as they always chew the flowers and spoil them..

All ours went yesterday, thank goodness, and it is so mild today..Sadly we now have gale force wind, and heavy rain.. It's so dark too,I've had to put the lamp on and it's only 3pm..Just chilling today, having watched the Annual New Years Day concert from Vienna this lunchtime..and a nice aroma from the Kitchen,of Roast Pork cooking nicely...I'm quite happy to be at home today .:o)

Hi Shiela, happy new year to you too, we've not had any snow stick round our way, just a few flakes coming down, but dark miserable wet weather, having to put the lights on now at 3-15pm, we didn't have to put them on at that time before the shortest day :-), Derek.

Thanks everyone. It is good yo see green again and its 11° but so windy too. After looking round my garden I've found several bushes with broken branches but there are wall flowers and primula flowering. Even found 4 dianthus flowers that were under the snow!!!. I can't ever remember a thaw so fast.
Spag bol for tea tonight Bloomer but roast pork sounds lovely. Everyone here said thats what they wanted today. I've never prepared anything other than a roast on New years day before. It doesn't feel natural, but there you go...lol

Happy new year, let's hope the snow stays away now!

Got out and sowed 20 pots of seeds this afternoon. They are all perennials that need a cold spell to germinate.

1 Jan, 2015

well that's a nice way to start the new year 2015. Snow gone and nice and mild.

Thanks everyone. You've done well Andrew. I've noticed that the sysirinchium I sowed in the summer have germinated in the cold greenhouse and are about an inch tall already. I'm glad now that I didn't throw them away when I thought they had failed. 😊

Happy New Year to you too HB The snow came here on too on Boxing Day, but took a couple of days to go. Just cold now. Well gone on the Sysirinchium :)

Thanks Waddy and Stroller. The family went home tonight to get ready for school so I'm hoping to take a good look around the garden tomorrow to see what going on out there. I can't wait now for sowing time starting next month. 😃

Happy New Year Homebird!

I am beginning to get the gardening itch again after a spell of hosting family visitors and all that entails. It has been really lovely, but now I'm beginning to notice things coming up in the garden. Although I have to say I've still got things around that I expected to be long gone.

Spring will be here before we know it (I hope!)

Happy New Year Melchi. I hope you've had a great time with your family. It's been hectic here's but I wouldn't have changed it for the world. 😃

No indeed - lots of lovely things to look back on!

My daughter and I took the children sledging last week and I loved it just as much as the little ones. Never moved so fast, so low to the ground, in years...exhilarating. Lol. My ankle was so stiff next morning....probably from using my heel as a brake!!! Those moulded plastic sledges are great, much easier to pull and steer than the home made ones we had as children.

5 Jan, 2015

What fun! I haven't sledged since childhood - we had a lovely silver-painted wooden one. I expect it was very ordinary really, but in my eyes it was wonderful. We very rarely have snow here - my children only got to sledge twice. It's very flat too, so they could only have a short run down a bank in the local park. My daughter still remembers it, though - she was only four.
