Our visit to Hereford gardens...(1)...Kentchurch Court.

We have spent a lovely few days touring around Herefordshire. The weather has been perfect and we based ourselves on a really nice touring site at Poston Mill Park. On the first day out we chose to visit Kentchurch Court Gardens. The House dates back to the 11th century. Unfortunately the house wasn’t open that day.

The herbaceous borders to the right of the house were interesting if a little overrun. As it’s quite late in the season a great many of the flowers were spent but there were several still hanging on. The gardens are tended by volunteers according to a nice young gardener we met on our stroll around.

The greenhouse here was totally derelict with all sorts of plants growing wildly in and around it…

I loved the colour and scent of this rose called Grandpa Dixon.

The walled vegetable garden was almost empty apart from the cabbages and onions. The young gardener said they were going to cut down the size of this garden and form flower borders instead next year.

To the left of the house we found the water garden and wooded areas….

There were some lovely specimen trees ….

and I loved this little seat…

I didn’t take many decent photos after this and we ended our saunter back at the house.

I wouldn’t mind visiting this place again in the summer and this statue made me think instantly of myself and how the grandchildren dive on my back when I get down on all fours to look for a stray toy under the furniture…!!!

I enjoy interesting places like that. They are so fascinating and have a lot of history.
I'd love to do a drawing of that house :)

Lovely place Homebird, a lot of the great houses now do companion planting in the kitchen gardens, its works a treat, I think the volunteers work really hard at these places.
Lovely pics, thankyou for sharing...

Hywel I'd love to see your drawing of this, you must do it, your drawings are so good.
Melchi...I bet it looks splendid in the summer before the majority of the summer flowering plants go over.
I love watergardens more than anything Shirley and although this one was very small it was really lovely.
Yes they do a very worthwhile job Lincs and they always have a moment to chat about the plans for the gardens.
Thanks Siris...

My favourite part was the water garden, because this is what we would love to do in our garden.....and I loved the tree with the amazing bark....

Thank you Simbad, Tt and Dd. T has been wanting to create a rill from the top of our garden down to the pond for years. There are so many trees either side of us, it would soon get bunged up with leaves I think. I love the sound of running water though. Luckily one of our neighbours has built a water feature and I can hear it tinkling when I'm in the flat lawn area. It's lovely.
