Hyacinths and Primroses around the garden.

Every year I buy or have bought for me a pot of Hyacinths and when they finish flowering I plant them in the garden. I never remember where I have put them so its always a lovely surprise each spring to find them flowering.

You can just see the blue ones from last year….

Then there are the Primulas which I split every year and move around the garden so that there is a bit of colour on the gloomiest days of the winter. (unless of course they are under a blanket of snow)

They are glowing in the garden now and it’s nice to see a spot or two of colour amidst the greens of the emerging perennials.

I just thought I'd share this with you, it's taken from the rubyat of Omar Kyam.

If of thy mortal goods, thou art bereft,
and from thy slender store, two loaves alone to thee are left,
sell one , and with the dole, buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.
Derek.

I can smell your hyacinths from here Hb ....mmmm lovely! primulars are looking really cheery as well. Oh isn't it nice to see colours again:-))))))
Wish I'd have known about the Newarke show, it would have been nice to meet you, never mind, perhaps next year!
Lovely saying Derek.

Thanks Derek, Gralew and Irene. That's a nice saying Derek. I think they look lovely in the garden at this time of year. I now remember putting last years blue ones behind the seat so that we would hopefully get the scent when we sat there. They aren't really open enough yet. Yes, hopefully next year Gralew... :o)
How did you get on at Buxton Irene? Did you have a good day? Did you buy much? They are Hostas just coming through, well spotted.... :o))

Wonderful Derek, I will treasure that quote.
Good show HB. I planted one or two a few years ago but no show for the hyacinth. Primula always good!

I will make a note of that Omar K quotation, Derek. Good one to remember. Yes, every thing is cheering up now & your gdn is looking nice HB. The Primulas do seem to be especially good this year.

Lol, a kindred spirit! I plant up hyacinths every autumn for the house, they fill the void left by the decorations after Christmas. Then each year the spent bulbs are added to the garden. I can never remember where I have put the ones from previous years so they sit in their bowls in the lobby until those in the garden show their faces.
I love the fact that they improve year upon year too, once they are rehomed in the garden.
You have a lovely range of primulas, too. Mine are primarily lemon, yellow and blue. I shall have to add some pink and red to compliment them. Have you tried growing them from seed? I may try, I am sure I have an old, overlooked packet in my seed box. Nothing ventured nothing gained. :-)

Lovely, Homebird! I love to see hyacinths in the garden. I like the perfume, but OH finds it a bit overpowering in the house, so I don't often have them. The primulas are lovely - I really like the rusty-red ones. I have some blue stripey ones this year - the flowers have lasted and lasted.

Thanks everyone. I walked past a garden full of Hyacinths in Ellerker last Wednesday and the scent was heavenly. I would love to have that many together. I didn't have my camera with me as I would like to have take a photograph of them. I haven't seen any blue stripey primulas anywhere Mel. They sound lovely.

They are lovely, Hb , I was deadheading them this afternoon. I suppose they are perhaps more mottled than stripey - very striking.

I love the scent of the Hyacinth , Hb .
We have been in the walking in the woods for the past couple of days , and the willow blossom , and the gorse today have been just heavenly .
