Anyone else getting bitten by insects/midges lately?

Every night as I get ready for bed for the past few weeks I have found that I have been bitten in several places. I don’t know if its from being in the greenhouse or walking through the garden. I wondered if anyone else had found it happening to them. I will go and buy some insect repellent today. I’ve never had to use it at this time of year.

Sorry to hear that Homebird - this cold should kill them off - with flu bugs too , thanks to a long awaited touch of cold for me

I usually get that in the spring, especially before the first grass mow
I keep antihistamine cream handy

They don't come near me, think I smell bad lol

They seem to prefer the females Paul, bit more thin skinned...lol
I have almost used up a tube of antihistamine Dotty. Strangely these bites aren't as itchy and they have just about disappeared next morning thank goodness. I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with the thoughts of them. I even began to wonder if they were in the house from the plants I brought in last month but no one else is having any problems. I'm going to give the greenhouse a good spray with insect spray today. I'd rather not as there are probably good insects hibernating in there too.

I must be female then Homebird :o((( lol
I get bitten terribly and come up in big swellings .... but not usually in winter.
I have seen lots of gnats about, but haven't really been down the garden.

How unusual Homebird. Midges etc usually make a bee line for me (excuse the pun) I can almost hear them shouting 'oh look, meal on legs' but at this time of year I'm usually safe.
Mnay years ago I had a large greenhouse, which was heated and in use for growing all year round. At thet time I did get Mossies, believe it or not...praps that's what you've got.

I was clearing up in amongst a hedge the other day HB and my head and back of my neck was covered in bites - I'm one of those that get bit no matter what I do. The warm weather has probably hatched eggs early.
I noticed the other afternoon on the front lawn there was some activity!

I blame the dog when I get bitten.

Not been bitten which for me's unusual too, but have seen midges in the garden and have greenfly in the unheated greenhouse and the slugs are still active in there too grrrr, hopefully this cold snap with see the nasties off :-)

I did wonder if you have a cat or dog that might have picked up a flea?

No bites for me at the moment, I am what my dad called 'sweet meat' as if any one was to get bitten it was me. I'm like hywel, welts/swellings and very red and angry bites as a result.

I also react badly when bitten but glad to say at the mo. all is well, I think the central heating being on full pelt doesnt help either.

I get bitten by cat fleas too. Last summer Blodyn had a bad attack of them. The flea drops just didn't work. Had to take her to the vet in the end ... we were both scratching like mad lol
The vet said it was a bad year for them and loads of people had complained.
They didn't touch Beryl ! ... but she does get bitten in the garden, although she doesn't come out in big red lumps, like I do.

Thanks for replying everyone. We don't have a cat or dog now so don't think it could be that. I haven't been in the greenhouse today but found a bite under my watch strap tonight even though I sprayed myself at lunch time. I reckon it's midges in the hedge down the side of the path. Hopefully the predicted snow will sort them out. Its also well below freezing tonight. There's always a silver lining to every cloud they say....lol.

It's amazing how quickly midges appear at the slightest sign of milder weather. I don't get bitten as badly as I used to when I was younger. Just as long as I don't get caught by a horsefly - they make me really ill! I expect (hope!) the freeze will see them all off.

I ve seen lots of midges here this cold does nt seem to kill the flies seen one last night in my living room after having he back door open just for an hour, yes freezing cold here but they are still about.

Little midges flying around down my garden too, all over the place, job to avoid them really, hope this forthcoming cold weather will get rid of them.
