12 of us altogether through to New Year's Eve Paul. It was a bit hectic at times but so enjoyable. It far too quiet now everyone has gone home. It's a lovely day today though so I intend to stay out in the garden pottering all day and recharge the batteries.

12 my word lol - glad it was good for you though - I had just me :D due to Becky , and parents all unwell

It's a good idea to put ivy in between plants in a tub. It helps to fill them out. I always do it.
I like the way you've framed your photos :o)
The flowers in the last photo are the best !

What a shame Paul. Hope you celebrated when they were all feeling better. We were very lucky.
Thanks Hywel, I was looking for some greenery to add when I noticed the ivies. There isn't much else you can use really at this time of year and I do like the effect.
It's so quiet here now we are on our own again. I'm glad the weather is improved so we can get a few hours in the garden.

love how you done your blog..... all looking good...

4 Jan, 2013

Like you Homebird I had a good 3 hours in the garden yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed what sunshine we had. All your pots look good, every time I see pics of primula it makes me wonder why I always go for winter pansies so I think I shall make a point of getting a few when out tomorrow.
Looking at all those delightful blooms sitting round the table put a real smile on my face - its what its all about this Christmas lark, hard work but worthwhile.

Lovely blog and i like how you framed everything. Can i have a blog as to how you did it? Loved the last photo, thats what Christmas is all about. :-)

Thanks Hollyeves and Gralew. I followed the instructions that Gee19 gave to Scotsgran in the following blog link.
http://www.growsonyou.com/Gee19/blog/22291-for-scotsgran-re-powerpoint.
It was so much easier than the usual way and it loaded faster than photos normally do.
Stroller doesn't it do you good to spend a few pleasant sunny hours in the garden, even if its just pottering. The winter pansies were a real disappointment this year. Probably too wet for them. I do enjoy having the whole family around me at Christmas.

These are really great pics (especially the last one) - your pots are looking great. Are these the same ones you had the pieris in in the summer?
I gave up on the winter pansies last year - they were the only bedding plants I've ever bought, decided that the money would be better spent on other things. So the money this year went on a new Hellebore instead!
Done quite a bit outside this last couple of days - it's been a real pleasure to get out and about in the garden hasn't it?

4 Jan, 2013

Thanks very much Scottish. I still have the pieris in their blue pots. I am potty about blue pots and have 16 of various sizes now...lol. The hellebores flowers are so pretty aren't they. I decided to put the new ones in pots as the ones in the garden don't seem to do very well with just a few leaves and no sign of flowers. I think I will put the ones in the garden into pots and see if they do better.

I love the way you have framed your pics too,H.bird..I shall be looking at the link on how to do it..I agree about winter Pansies ..I only buy Violas these days,as my last Pansies were rubbish..the smaller ones stand up to the wet, much better..The last pic is lovely..four lovely children there...do I spot the remains of a Viennetta ? :o)

4 Jan, 2013

Love it!

4 Jan, 2013

Thanks Bloomer, yes lol, it was a Viennetta my son- in- laws favourite. :o))

My Winter Pansies are still flowering well. I read on Goy they like to be higher. So put them in a long planter which
I set up on some bricks to give it height.
Dont know why this is.
Can anyone explain ?

5 Jan, 2013

All my planters are stood on feet or bricks, summer and winter,Diane, plus lots of added grit,so it could be because they have better drainage, as mine tended to rot in the borders...

Great blog Hb. I love your photos, especially the last one, ahhhh. bless em. and I know what you mean about it being quiet now!

Thanks will take a look.

Great blog Homebird, sounds like a really good family kneesup, the children are all looking very attentive, what were you tempting them with ????
I love Primulas and seeing yours has given me a yearning, I`ve spent a while tidying around the borders this morning, its like a spring day out there, done me a power of good and never coughed once, lol....

HB, forgot to comment on the penstemons still in flower, mine were over ages ago, they're lovely. Lost two of mine last winter, will replenship them this year. :-)

5 Jan, 2013

Plants and children are all flourishing - all must bring you lots of joy.

5 Jan, 2013

I really enjoyed this blog thank you for sharing :o)

Thanks Grandmage, Lincs, Gralew, Wildrose and Sbg for your lovely comments.
Chocolate cake and ice cream Lincs...lol I'm glad you managed to get outside in your garden, it does make you feel better.
I don't know what's keeping the Penstemons going Gralew, they are really exposed to all weathers too. Sorry you lost some of yours last winter. I am trying to get some cuttings going but they don't look too promising.
It's so nice to have my family around me especially at Christmas time Wildrose. The children make it extra special.
I enjoyed trying the power point thingy out Sbg.

You certainly had a busy time, but I bet you all loved it. They look as if they are really enjoying the grub!
I love the hellebores, they look lovely. My little winter pansies haven't been too bad, but I only have a few in pots around the front door. I think I might be tempted by some of the primulas, though - fabulous, aren't they? I've got some pale yellow ones flowering their hearts out. I love them because they are so like wild primroses.

6 Jan, 2013

Thankyou Melchisedec, the primulas are opening up a lot more now and providing a lovely bit of colour now. The 2 Primula veris (Cowslips) I have are begining to grow new leaves so I am hoping they wont be long before they are flowering to. The Hellebores are slow to open but I can wait....lol.

7 Jan, 2013

I still have penstomen in flower - though they kept their flowers hidden when I did a recent selection of pics on GoY. I also agree about the pansies over the winter - They have been hopeless. And Primula are (among) my favourites, I love 'em all.

A lovely selection Homebird. Set in what looks to be a lovely garden.

I have a similar hellebore to your Angel Glow - (Eric Smithii), and it is showing more and more each day.

8 Jan, 2013

Thankyou Fractal cat. The Penstemons have done really well this year haven't they. As they are new hellebores I can't wait to see what the flowers look like when they open up fully. I have heard of the Eric Smithii but will have to google it to remind me what it looks like. I will go and take a look at your garden now.... :o))

8 Jan, 2013

11 Jan, 2013

Loved it too , Hb , I have only been on GoY very briefly of late .

Thanks for looking Sixpence and Driad. There isn't much happening in the gardens really just now is there. It's a bit of a flat couple of months now.
