A quick look around the garden in the middle of September.

I haven’t had chance to notice what been happening in the garden for the past week or so as Emily and Samuel have been staying here and yesterday all the family came for the day. I have loved having them to stay. It was lovely to see Matthew, Phoebe, Samuel and Emily playing together yesterday. While I prepared dinner for the 12 of us the older children disappeared upstairs and when I went to investigate I found them wearing my specs and pretending to read my bedtime book…..

The cheeky monkeys….

I didn’t remember how many muscles and joints I had until they all started aching by the end of this week…lol
Anyway it was lovely to have a good look around the garden today. The sun was shining and if it hadn’t been for the coolish wind it would have been glorious. There aren’t many plants still flowering but there are a few. The cyclamen are looking good and the heucheras are colouring up and some even have flowers. The Leucanthemum and Gailardia are a nice splash of bright colour now and a late flowering Delphinium has been so pretty.

The Geum, Gaura, Phlox, Salvia and Lobelia are giving a last few flowers.

…and the cuttings I took from the overwintered Geraniums are flowering well now. The Marigolds have just about survived the slimeys along with the Dahlias and are flowering better now than they did throughout the summer and there are just a few other plants still producing.

…and to think that I thought last week there was hardly any colour left in the garden it’s not doing too badly really..

It's still going great HB. Those Cyclemen are looking lovely! Your asters are miles ahead of mine. It's gorgeous here today - although the winds are very strong.
Pleased to see you have a good time with the family. I had my neices and nephew staying this weekend. It's usually only 1 at a time as there's not much room but my son is away to Cyprus to there is an extra bed - so they were all fighting about who was getting to sleep in his double bed!!
There aren't many kids where they stay so have had a field day here just out playing whilst I was getting on with my decorating the hall.

It's so nice when children can go out to play with their friends. My daughters house is in a cul de sac on a young estate where there are quite a few youngsters who call to ask Emily out to play on the fronts. You can keep an eye on them and they learn to share and make friends.

I like the planting in the first bed best, but you`ve also got lots of lovely colour in the garden, and the apples look scrumptious.

Your garden has a lot of colour still Homebird and its a very welcome sight, lets hope we can hang onto them as long as possible, the children look very pleased with themselves on Nans bed, very cheeky smile on your grandsons face but the youngest is really into that book, lol....

Thanks Tt. The grandchildren certainly keep me on my toes.
Thanks Bloomer. For some reason the slimeys seem to be less active in the garden and it's giving the plants a chance to recover a bit. The three bigger children play so well together. Samuel is content just to play with his cars.
Thank you Stroller, isnt it funny how children always want to use your bed as a plane, train, tent or trampoline..
Hywel the apples aren't quite ripe yet, but you try telling the children that....lol. Luckily the plums are, so they picked and ate plenty of them.
I love my blue pots. I have 14 now.

Thanks Sheila and Lincs, Just hope we do keep some of the colour for a few more weeks. Good job Emily can't read yet and Matthew only wants books with pictures in still....lol

Thanks Sl. The apples haven't done as well as they usually do and the cookers are very poor. But at least there are some. The children look forward to bonfire night and the toffee apples we make with the ones left on the trees.

It all looks lovely, Homebird. I keep meaning to take some photos before all is finished - I have bought some new perennials I am rather pleased with. Like you, though, I have been busy with other things (people!) so have just been doing vital maintenance!

Great colour still in your garden Hb...Love that Aster...:>)

Thanks Mechi and Moti. It's been nice to get in the garden proper and shuffle a few things around. I love taking care of the children but I can't expect them to spend the whole time gardening although they do like to help me. The garden waited. The aster was new this year and I left it potted up until I can clear some of the bed I want to put it in. I just ordered a load of seed for next year. I have told T I may need another greenhouse for all the seed trays....lol

Wow, Homebird! You are going to be busy!

19 Sep, 2012

Can't wait to get started...lol. Only 5 months to wait to get sowing.....lol

19 Sep, 2012

I sometimes buy packets I "can't resist" only to find them languishing long after they should have been dealt with. I really admire people who grow plants from seed, their own or bought in.

19 Sep, 2012

I find myself itching to get seed going as soon as the new year is here. I will have to restrain myself as they grow better when sown later in Feb and March as I found out last year when I wasn't able to do them til then.

19 Sep, 2012

I shall have to try some again - it seems so uneconomic not to. My sister grows loads of things from seed - I shall have to give her my packets!

19 Sep, 2012

That sounds like a good plan...:o))
