The following plants are all freebies that were sent with orders I placed, or for just the cost of postage.
I think this is a lovely colour. It came in a bag of mixed Gladioli for just the cost of postage. There are several more scattered around the garden that are only just budding up.

The snails ate most of the Dahlias while we were away!!! but these 3 survived…..just…..

The scent from these lilies is so strong it carries all around the garden.

This one doesn’t have such a strong scent but I love it’s colours.

I grew these from free seed sent with an order last year…

The alliums came a couple of years ago for the cost of postage and they have done so well….

This Agapanthus came free about 3 yrs ago as a tiny bare root plant and has just started to produce flowers this year….

…and last but not least this Mandevilla Hybrida ‘Rio Pink’, which the nursery lady gave me after I had paid very little for the plants I got last Wednesday.

They aren’t bad if I say so myself..lol.

Can't grumble Tt. They have helped me fill the garden up.

It's a bit like buying shoes ... sometimes the inexpensive ones fit best of all ;o)

Just shows what a good gardener you are !

Oh shoes...thats almost as seductive as going to the garden centre... :0)))

your bargains have given so much colour homebird no wonder you are pleased with them

Lol....Tt. but true........ :o))
I couldn't ever say that Diane, I have lost more plants through carelessnes than I care to remember!!!. But I am learning from you all on here.:o)

Excellent Hb, i do love a bargain too :-))

15 Aug, 2012

Nothing like a good bargain Hb. and you certainly have some good ones there. Brilliant.

Thanks Sl and Grandmage. I always tell my children "don't turn plants down". They will always be wanted by someone you know if you don't want them yourselves. I hate to think of good plants going to the compost. Sometimes the plants for postage cost only are really good plants and you can find a spot for them in the garden.

I love the Allium sphaerocephalon - gorgeous. I keep meaning to get some but they have been expensive and I'm waiting for a bargain. I always head straight for 'sick bay' as I call it at our local GCs. You can pick up some great bargains, which only need a bit of TLC. My favourite thing is when they slash the price of roses or clematis to practically nothing. Mind you they don't always do well - dahlias were disastrous, thanks to the SAS - but I can't resist giving it a go. Your bargains are flourishing and look great, HB.

Lovely selection, especially the white lilies and the gladiolus. You must be very pleased with them all!

15 Aug, 2012

Love the Lilies, and I just love freebies! Well done you.

Thanks for all your nice comments.
Sorry I missed your comment Pam. I have a thing for shoes too. Far too many really. I buy them because I can't resist them and then find they cripple me after so long...lol
Steragram and Waddy I was so pleased to see how the lilies and the gladioli turned out. So rewarding to see several coming up and doubling up every year too. It does help to fill the borders a lot quicker and you can always replace any you want with plants you really want.
Tuesdaybear I will try to dig some of the Sphaerocephalon for you. Will let you know when. I always look on the sick bay too and very often the stores just put them there because they are out of flower. That's how I got the lovely Canna that flowered this month.

That's a very kind offer, HB - thank you. :)))

Beautiful pictures of beautiful plants, Homebird! And so satisfying to get them for next to nothing!

You are welcome Tuesdaybear.
Thank you very much Mel. It is isn't it. :o)

Great photos/plants Homebird, and now I know the name of one of mine - Agapanthus, it is beautiful. Thanks :o))

Thank you N3tyy. :o))

Super freebies you've got there HB - I do like that pink Lily....very nice indeed!

16 Aug, 2012

Thanks Scottish. The pink one isn't as strong a scent as the white ones and I prefer it. The white is a bit overpowering. It was nice waiting to see what colour everything turns out to be.

It's nice to have bargains :o) They're all doing well with you.

17 Aug, 2012

It's not as upsetting if you lose a freeby or two as it is when you have payed full wack for a plant you really 'must' have. ...and I have lost several of them over the years.....

19 Aug, 2012

Well done you, all looking very healthy.

28 Aug, 2012

They have done better than a lot of my bought plants this year Dd. I bought some Rudbeckia Green Wizard and they have totally disappeared......can't even find the root ball!!!!

29 Aug, 2012

We do not do well with Rudbeckia or Echinacea, but I am determined to keep trying!!

29 Aug, 2012

Me too, I love their rich colours.
