Frogs are garden friends?????

I woke up at 7 this morning, a lie in for me as I am usually awake before 6. I made a cuppa and took it through to the conservatory intending to feed the fish. I got a bit of a shock as I looked into the pond. Hardly any water……Oh! crumbs I thought (or much stronger words to that effect actually) what on earths happened to all the water. The poor fish were splashing about in about 6 inches of muddy water. I noticed the pump wasn’t running into the pond either and I turned off the filter and pump.

I dashed outside to connect the hose pipe to the tap to add some fresh water a.s.a.p. We have two hoses by the tap. One goes up to the greenhouse tap and the other is for the slope garden and patio. Well, the hose for up the garden was still attached so I pulled it off to connect the patio reel and realised too late that the tap was still turned on down here…..resulting in me being suddenly given a cold shower. Not deterred I fought the jet of water and managed to turn the tap off and connect the hose. I took the opportunity to clear some of the overgrown plants while the water was low and I didn’t have to get in up to the thighs like I normally have to do lol.

T lifted the slab from over the filter chamber and there sat 2 fat frogs in the outlet pipe…… The air was blue I can tell you. The frogs hopped into what was left of the pond and disappear beneath the lily pads. T put a piece if wood over the chamber to stop them doing it again. It took about 3 hours to refill the pond.

Luckily no real harm done. :o))

After my early morning drenching I thought it might be a nice idea to take a warmer shower and have a trip out to the garden centre and nursery I like to visit. I bought some Sweet William, Wallflower and Chrysanthemum seeds and we found a nice shrub Abelia ‘Edward Gouche’ for the top garden and 3 pretty Potentilla thurberi ‘Monarchs Velvet’ plants. I haven’t decided where to put the plants yet. I think I will keep them in their pots until there is a bare spot that needs filing.

We had our lunch in the garden centre and when we got home we decided as it was lovely and sunny to sit up in the garden. An hour later a pearler of a thunderstorm kicked off and we took shelter in the summer house. So noisy we could hardly hear ourselves think with the thunder booming and the rain beating down in sheets on the roof. We waited until the rain bated a bit before high tailing it back to the house…..only to find I had left the conservatory door open and the floor was awash. Well it’s all moped up and cleaner now than it was before….lol.
What a funny water filled day it’s been.

I'm always wary when something goes wrong first off ..... it usually leads to more disasters through the day! I had a similar pump problem to yours - my problem was a huge snail enjoying the damp! Soon evicted! Hope all is wlel now. :o)

Snails get stuck in my watering cans and we now have a resident toad in the gh, put him out times.....unless there's more than one........

Blooming snails get everywhere this year Pam including up some trees and shrubs!!! Thankfully Nariz they haven't moved into the pump.....yet!!! Thanks Sl no harm done.
It was nice to go out to such a nice GC Hywel and I didn't have to cook lunch which was a bonus. :o)))

great blog homebird so funny but not at the time i bet, glad all is ok now with the fishies.
thunder was so loud in night here and woke us up, thought the house was falling down haha, havent slept for days here but slept this afternoon for about 3 hours was so tired, more tonight im told.

Oh! Blimey Sandra it's so frustrating when you can't get enough sleep at night. Glad you managed to catch up a bit this afternoon. Let's hope it isn't loud enough to wake you if more comes tonight. I wouldn't mind but it's not been that warm to warrant thunder.
The fish are eating like they are starving since the change of water. You only have to walk into the conservatory and they dash up to the window where I usually feed them. Greedy devils...lol.

lol homebird, still fine here and your right wouldnt think it warmer enough for thunder myself, strange but my fish are after food ever time i pass, and noticed mt lily pads have been eaten to lol, some are getting to be quite large for goldfish haha.

Oh gosh Homebird, I know from experience how that feels, your heart goes in your mouth and yes you do leg it for the hosepipe no matter how one is dressed, ones thought is always to add more water, then discover the cause, I`ve had the filter blocked and water overflow over the back instead of returning back into the pond and also the pipes knocked out by accident but its never been caused by a frog, I admit to having a chuckle but you described your day so well, I`m good at turning the air blue sometimes also, on the plus side you have new plants, a refreshed and clean pond and the floor is clean in the conservatory, can`t be bad, lol...

Lincslass, Every cloud has a silver lining and bucket of water aimed at me.. Lol. You were so right about the reaction.. Glad it made you chuckle though. :0))

Sorry this is a bit late HB...haven't been on much and TRYING to catch up!!!!
I'm glad all was sorted in the end. There is nothing like a bit of drama first thing in the morning is there? Reminded me of the morning the cats were digging up all my plants trying to get the mole they brought into the garden. I hope that T's solution will prevent a repeat.

Oh! My goodness Scottish, did the mole get away after all that? It's hard to leave as many comments as you would like when you are playing catchup. Everyone understands anyway that there are times when we just haven't the time to comment on everything we would like to. Fingers crossed T has prevented a re-occurrence with the frog antics. Thanks for looking Scottish. :o))

Yes HB...the mole got away....if you look back on my blogs you will see a few pictures from that episode!!!
