Couldn't get plastic but...........

We decided to have a run over to B&Q today to get some thick plastic to cover the cold frame that T has built for me. While we were there I suggested we look for a climbing plant for our mothers for Easter as they both loved to see my Clematis and Honeysuckle. Well they didn’t have the polythene we wanted and the prices of the climbers were a bit steep and the choice was limited, but T meanwhile noticed the sale plants and brought me a tray of Sweet Peas reduced down to £1. (I am training him well…..lol)

So off we set to try Dobbies but on the way there T remembered a small nursery we used to visit until I called 3 times and found them closed and we decided to go and see if they were still trading. I was pleased to find that they were. We sauntered around and found a lovely clematis each for the Mothers.
C. Piilu

and C. Early Sensation.

They were only £5 each. The ones in B&Q were £12 for the first one and £15 for the second one. Glad we didn’t get them from there now.
As we looked around I found 3 Erysimum linifolium variegatum at £2 each

and a Cytisus x Praecox ‘Allgold’ at £4.

then 3 Campanula Carpatica £2 each.

There were loads of summer bedding plants but I haven’t room in the greenhouse to keep any more little plants so didn’t get any of them. They also had Heucheras for £2 each, so next month you know where I will be visiting. They had such a great choice of plants, shrubs and trees, I was in heaven. There were some 6’ tall Malus trees absolutely covered in blossoms. Some deep red, some deep pink and some white and pale pink. I am intending to get one for the front garden.
All in all it was a great trip out and we didn’t have to travel more than 4 miles…….
I will have to look elsewhere for the polythene we originally went to buy…….lol
Oh! I almost forgot the Acer T fancied. It’s not got a name but it’s lovely anyway….

….and the one I liked….

Thankyou Sl,Cinders,Ojibway,Clarice, Bjs and Dd. I have added the 2 Acers we also got and I forgot to include.....It was too good a chance to miss really and so nice to have T along with me on a plant shop. I usually have to go alone, so I do believe the gardening bug has got to him at long last......lol. Yep you are right Brian T says he will get the plastic he needs from the local builders supplies. Well the coldframe is his project until he hands it over to me....lol He is just getting over a really bad bout of bronchitis which has lasted nearly 2 months and has had 4 lots of antibiotics and is feeling that he needs to get out of the house and into the fresh air in the garden. I hope he takes to gardening and we can do it together as he regains his strength..

My quick trip to B&Q usually end up like this...not having what I wanted but with pennies in the pocket to spend - I will quite happily visit other nurseries I have found nearby. I always seem to find something to buy....I went for a new bird feeder today and came back with the feeder and 5 plants :))

What you mean is that you are taking advantage of him while he is at a low ebb,you ladies are all the same.

Changing the subject is there any sign of a bud on the Paeony
I have two others slightly smaller than yours and pretty sure there will be no flowers this year.Hoping yours will perform better.

My kind of shopping,Homebird..I hardly ever see anything I want at B&Q either..we only go to look for other things, but I look round the garden bit..naturally ..not impressed..Love your Acers..are you going to keep them in pots?..I'm sure your gifts for both mum's will be appreciated..lovely :o)

Scottish he weeded the front garden borders this afternoon and I was surprised to see he had carfully forked around the roses and lavender and didn't damage any of the other plants either. He normally just mows the lawn and pulls out bits of grass in the borders and leaves anything that's not grass for me to sort out. It's lovely to see him showing an interest.

Brian..Trust you to understand my cunning plan.. The mlokosewitschii is steadily growing and the flower bud still on. Theres another one forming too. Fingers crossed it manages to flower. One of the others you sent me as seed has a small leaf showing too. I will look tomorrow for the label to see which one it is and take a photo. :o))

Bloomer I thought the acers would go in with the one I got last year as it seems to like where I have put it, although I do think they would look lovely in a corner of the patio in pots. I can't decide what to do now......!!

I love Acers, but I've never had one..I suppose I could find a space for one in a pot on the patio...I'm thinking too :o)
Don't they prefer a bit of a shaded area ?

7 Apr, 2012

I think some need more shade than others, we could try them in diferent places to see whats best (or read the advice on the label if it's in English)....lol :o)))

Thanks B I am really looking forward to seeing it flower now. Do they usually flower at the same time as the common ones I have.
Thanks Willlinilli, it was nice to get back to a bit of normallity and a pleasant surprise to have T show an interest and choosing plants. He has never done that before. :o)
What would we do without Google now Bloomer. :o)
