22nd November and there is still some colour in the garden.

I really couldn’t wait any longer to have a clear up and tidy in the garden. Some of the flowers on the geraniums and marigolds were getting mildewed because of the horrible damp, dull, cold weather we are having now. So if I wanted to save any of the plants for next year I knew I had to make a start. I have been really enjoying the colour in the garden so late in the year as before this year I had very little in it to see. As I went round pulling up the last of the summer bedding (well most of it, I couldn’t bear to pull it all out) I thought I would take a few photo’s of what is still flowering….

Gaura Lindheimeri Pink Dwarf. it’s been in flower since early summer…

Penstemon Picotee Red and Pink such a long flowering period…..

….the Rudbeckias…..

….hardy Fuchsias

..the self sown Nasturtiums..

..cant find the label for this one and I have forgotten it’s name…..

…Phygelius ‘Yellow Bells’

Rose ‘Hot Chocolat’

…the Vinca has started to flower again…..

…Bacota looks so nice cascading over the side of the barrel

……..Centaurea…..

…..the Water Hawthorne (Aponogeton) smells lovely and will go on flowering well into December….

Matthew and Phoebe came while I was in the garden and were a big help putting the spent plants into the compost bins. I wish I had thought to take a photo of them muddied up to the eyeballs. They just wanted to relax with Peppa Pig when we came in

Well haven’t we all done well to have so many plants flowering ’till so late in the year. Lets hope we only get a short sharpe winter and soon step into spring……

I`m with you there Homebird, I won`t mind a very short winter, I still have some bedding left, like you I haven`t the heart to get rid of flowers. Good to have help although it looks as though you`ve tired them out...

Goodness me, you do have a lot of colour left, must have been very difficult deciding what to take up and what to leave. Love to see the children making themselves at home, good old pepper Pig a favourite of our Granddaughter Lilia.

Still plenty of colour left there Homebird. I know what you mean, I pulled out all my petunias last week. I felt guilty as there were still a few flowers left on it but it was so pathetic and straggly - anyway, I wanted the pot they were in for some new bulbs!
Your little helpers look nice and relaxed after their hard work!

Thanks everyone, I do wish I had taken a photo of the grandchildren before we got washed and changed. It's a good job we keep spare clothes for them all here, they never stay clean or dry at our house...lol. I still have more geraniums to pot up for overwintering but I am hoping to get that done at the weekend and will probably have Emily here then to 'help'. :o))
The silver foliage plants you can see accross the garden Paul in pic 3 are Cineraria silver dust that I started from seed this year. They looked lovely with the geraniums I thought. If they don't overwinter I will definitely set more seed of these in spring for next year.

As you say, we have all done so well with so much colour this late in the year ... I was surprised to see the Vinca flowering again ... a very confusing season for the plants! ... :o)

Everything is very confused, but lets dream of a short winter and early spring!

Very windy down here today ... foam from the high waves was being blown on to the road ... not seen that happen for a while! . . . . .

I'm glad everyone has had a prolonged flowering season like us.
Sl the water Hawthorne has a lovely scent (better enjoyed in the summer when we can have the windows open most of the time)It flowers for such a long period.
Hi Cristina for some reason I have not had reminders that you had put photo's on in October I am going to take a peek after this. Better late than never I suppose. You have been busy. Hope it's all going well for you and is all finished and looking really good for Christmas.
Thanks Meanie and Shirley. We had quite a few strong gusts today, nearly blew me off my feet at one point and it went very dark at 2.30 and we had torrential rain for about half an hour. Never really got light again. No idea what the garden looks like now as it was pitch black when I got home from work. Fingers crossed for a short winter and early spring...... :o))
